RnB Live presented Ashanti, Lloyd, Ryan Leslie and others at Spotlight Live in NYC last night. Also in attendance was Ashanti’s Momanger, Irv & Chris Gotti, Q-Tip, Comedian Anthony Anderson, Flo Rida, and yes Gayle King, Oprah’s BFF…talk about big dog! Be sure to check out some exlcusive pics over at Dutch Lab USA. Props to Harry from JumpOffTV for the video link of Ashanti’s performance of “The Way That I Love You”…ya dig?? I heard Ashanti literally hit the stage for about 5 seconds…on some hit and quit it type of issh. Why the rush? Shorty was the main attraction of the night and played everyone with her half a second performances. And in case you’re wondering, Nelly was MIA. Must’ve been a nice, cozy reunion for Ashanti and Irv with Nelly outta the picture for the night- here I go again startin’ ishh…
Grammy Award winning producer/songwriter Bryan Michael Cox, the man behind hit songs, “Shake It Off”, “Confessions”, “Be Without You” and more took time out of his busy schedule to grace Howard University with his presence. The room was packed with students eager to hear him speak, most of them aspiring music professionals. I really thought he was mainly going to discuss his life and career. But I was wrong, this event turned into a Q&A session which didn’t seem to bother Bryan one bit!

As promised here a couple of videos I shot from the R&B Live at Spotlight with Ray-J and Yung Berg. Sorry for the bad audio on the Yung Berg video…the speakers/bass/audio was too damn loud. Anywhoo…enjoy!
Yung Berg- “Sexy Lady” Live at Spotlight
Ray-J performing “Wait a Minute/One Wish”
Ray-J and Yung Berg team up for hit single “Sexy Can I”
Peep all the lip licking, d*ck stroking, and grindin’…can’t believe he acts like this with his mom, Sonja Norwood, in the audience- No Shame!
Here’s another one…last night ya gurl had the pleasure of attending “R&B Live” at Spotlight with Epic/Koch recording artists Ray- J, Yung Berg, and Casely. Yung Berg hit the stage performing his hit “Sexy Lady” and new single “Do That There” off his upcoming album Look What You Made Me. Newbie Casely, a 22 year old classically trained pianist sang his current single “Emotional”. And closing ou the night Ray- J rocked the stage with “Wait a Minute”, “One Wish” and #1 hit single “Sexy Can I” alongside Yung Berg. And yes there was a whole lotta stroking, sweating, crotch grabbing, and a bit of stripping…courtesy of Ray-J. Others in the building included Kevin Liles, AZ, DJ Kay Slay, ANTM reject (can’t recall chick’s name), and many others. CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO PERFORMANCES
On Bow Wow:
“I wouldn’t call it taking shots at him. I mean ever man is entitled to their opinion. I didn’t take no shots at him. I mean if I was taking shots at him, we’d be gettin’ it poppin. Ya dig? But it’s all good, shout out to the boy, Get Money!” On Kim Kardashian:
“I called her ‘Damaged Goods’ because my big bro done had her. And the way Envy set it up it was kind of like Envy tried to play like ‘Would I have Sex with her?’ No! She’s my bro’s ex-thing, like she’s damaged goods. She’s not for me, it’s my personal opinion. I don’t speak for nobody else.” (Audio will be up shortly)
Ray-J rolled into the set sorta late but was a real cool in dealing with the media. Very cocky but I must admit sweet. While he worked the room, I realized his mom, Sonja Norwood, was in the building. I quickly got in journalist mode.
“Mrs. Norwood, how do you feel about your son and his recent film endeavors?/ No Comment. But I will say he’s a grown man! (Smile)”
After much posing for the camera, it was time for Ray-J to make his way backstage for a lil’ warm up. With a crowded building, I made my way to the front of the room preparing for Yung Berg’s and Ray-J’s set. And started snapping…
By the end of the night, I came to a realization. Yeah, Ray-J maybe raunchy and a tid bit oversexual for my taste…but overall he’s just a young dude trying to come up outta his big sister’s shadow and make a name for himself anyway he can. Kind of pathetic how a porn flick with a hot white chick suddenly made his star shine a lil’ brighter, but like Fifty said “Get Rich or Die Tryin’”. And by no means am I co-signing his newfound stardom, but if it works for him…I can’t knock him.
Check out this video clip of The Dey performing “Give You The World” at an Armani Exchange mixer in Bloomingdales in NYC. Cheers to the new City High…shorty can definitely sing, I can already see she’ll be going solo shortly!
Star Tracks youngest protégé, Teyana Taylor, held a live showcase of her debut album, From a Planet called Harlem, in NYC at celebrity hot spot The Marquee. The girl is only 17 years old and she’s already dubbed as the next big thing by super producer Pharell who signed her to his record label. Ya also might’ve seen her on the highest-rated episode of MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16″ last year…her party was so HOT! Anywhoo last night’s set was to begin at 7pm but like in true diva style, Teyana didn’t hit the stage until 8:30pm. With a restless awaiting crowd of industry insiders, Teyana rocked the building with her many funky fresh Star Track joints. A few VIPs were in the building including, Rick Ross and Hot 97’s Angie Martinez and Ebro…unfortunately Pharrell was MIA. Check out the pictures and video compilation below…
Throughout her showcase I couldn’t help but think “Is Teyana the new Kelis? Will “Google Me” upstart Teyana to star status like “Milkshake” did fo Kelis??” One thing is for certain, the girl’s got killer abs remiscent of Aaliyah/Ciara, she can flow like them harlem dudes, and her style…well its 80’s skater chick with a funky R&B/Hip Hop mix. Realtalk, I didn’t leave the show thinking “Wow, She’s gonna be a star” but if Ashanti, Rihanna, and Ciara can do it…then why not Teyana. Best believe teenyboppers will be signing Teyana praises.
Hot 97’s Angie Martinez & DJ Ebro. If you care to know, Angie Martinez is also Nokio’s (Dru Hill) babymama.
Rick Ross leaving the club…be sure to check out more commentary on Teyana’s showcase on Giant.
Ya gurl got invited to another fabolous listening event hosted by Microsoft Zune & Cornerstone promotions for Bun B’s II Trill at Spotlight Live. As I was escorted to the private media room at Spotlight Live it suddenly hit me just how exclusive this was. With a full spread of catered southern food and open bar, this party was a hit. After 15 minutes, a plethora of music execs, promoters, photographers and industry folks began to flow in. Bun B and his Texas crew (thugged out dudes accompanied by wannabe video hoe chicks)rolled in, Talib Kweli & Kevin Liles stopped by too. Definitely a chill vibe, great food, bubbly flowing and Bun B’s new tracks in background. My fav track on the album so far is a joint featuring Lupe Fiasco entitled “Swang on Em”, Lupe’s flow- so sick! The event started at 7pm, I was smashed by 9pm. Three glasses of white wine and I was done…seriously I gotta step my liq game. Shouts to Widley (I see u working the room), Roberto & OP (well done!), & Aishah (roll dawg). Peep the pictures below…
Check out the tracklisting after the cut! Loads of features…
Last night ya gurl attended Smirnoff Mix Series and lets just say it was off the hook! Hip Hop veterans Q-Tip, Common, and KRS-One hit the stage and killed it with their many classics. Q-Tip came on the set first, followed by Common, and then KRS-One. I couldn’t help but notice the minor accident Q-Tip had on stage…but lets just say their was blood on his face. He didn’t notice it but some folks in the audience were a bit shooked. Anywhoo of all the performances, Common brought the crazy energy, the ill flow…from one song to the next. Common’s set had me ammped the entire night from “The People” to “The Light” to “Testify”, dude straight murdered ‘em!
