STR8 TALK: MY LOVE FOR 90′S HIP HOP MUSIC…

STR8 TALK: MY LOVE FOR 90′S HIP HOP MUSIC…

So I started getting back into the swing on things…hitting up some parties, going out with friends, networking and just putting my face back out there. In case you haven’t noticed, Str8NYC.com was on hiatus for a few months. I can’t help but admit I have a love/hate relationship with this industry. Sure its fun going out hitting up events every other night and enjoying late nights of free bubbly all while networking with the movers and shakers in this music/entertainment industry. But there comes a point when all of that mess gets boring and tiring…seriously! Seeing the same faces every other night and people just standing in a room waiting for celebrities to flood in…while they all stare and become wallpaper camouflage. So needless to say, I needed a break, that was nearly 4-5months ago. And now, Wednesday, March 30, 2011 I find myself blogging again. What prompted me to hit the keyboard again, you ask? Let’s just say my love for ’90s music. Weird, huh? Well on Saturday, my galpal Aishah invited me to a party at Santos Party House. At first I was a bit hesitant, but when she mentioned, “Lex, it’s gonna be a night of all 90′s music…LET’S GO!” Say no more, I was there.

No lie from the second I walked in, spanned across the mixed crowd (blacks, whites, latinos, asians), and felt the laid back vibe…I was on cloud nine. I danced the entire night away…more like until 4am. Sweated my curls out and all. It wasn’t until that very moment, I realized my love and appreciation for 90′s music, everything from hip-hop to house. The party was live from beginning to end and the Brooklyn Bandits on the set were on point! Something about hearing all those tunes, transported me back into time to my junior high/high school days. A moment of carefree living…not a worry in the world but just doing well school and my friends. It was a moment of innocence & just good music…

These classic good tunes reminded me how I much I dislike today’s hip-hop music. Sad to say but today’s music just doesn’t evoke the same type of emotion and excitement as 90′s music. No amount of Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Gucci Mane, Lil’ Wayne will compare to days when music had substance and really made you dance. So with that said, I’ll continue to use this platform, Str8NYC.com, blog to promote good music and not feed into the bullshit of this music/entrainment industry. You don’t have to like what I say or even agree…but respect the fact, I’m entitled to my own opinion, just as you. Now let’s get to bloggin’…and shouts to DJ Spinna, Clark Kent and BK Bandits for inspiring. Much love!
