USHER PENS VOTING SONG, “HUSH”

Nowadays almost every singer or rapper is getting political and expressing their views through their music. Usher is the latest celebrity to jump on the voting bandwagon with his new track Hush which has debuted on iTunes, urging fans to vote in this upcoming presidential election on Nov. 4. Not only is Usher the youth chairman of the Service Nation Summit, but he has also led youth rallies, organized voter registration drives and participated in PSA’s for Leonardo DiCaprio’s DoSomething.org and CNN’s League of First Time Voters. He says,

‘Hush’ is about my awakening over the past 10 years to the social issues in our country and realizing that I have a voice. As Americans we have the right to speak out about slow recovery in the Gulf Coast (after Hurricane Katrina), a long war and home foreclosures. But complaining isn’t enough, you have to also take action. Whether serving at the homeless shelter or going to the polls for the first time, you have to act or else Hush.”

And as for the dumb ass rappers who spend their money on nothing but diamonds and nice whips, he’s taking shots at them too in the words of his new song, singing,

“Everyday he wakes up in his million dollar home/his life is like a video/the only reality he knows/He jumps inside of his hundred thousand dollar car/cruising up the boulevard driving past people living hard”.

Everyone is saying we’re ready for a change, but if folks don’t go to the polls we might just miss out on our chance for CHANGE. So hit the polls on Nov. 4th! Sh*t, I’m still waiting for my damn absentee ballot. SMH…NYC is trying to disenfranchise me!
