SOLANGE ISN’T OUT 2 STEAL BEYONCE’S SPOTLIGHT

SOLANGE ISN’T OUT 2 STEAL BEYONCE’S SPOTLIGHT

solangepic.jpg Solange makes it clear on her sophomore album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams , that she’s not trying to be like her older sister, Beyonce.

On the appropriately titled opener “God Given Name” Solange sings, “I’m not her and never will be / two girls gone in different directions, striving towards the same galaxy / let my star light shine on its own / No, I’m no sister, I’m just my God-given name”.

Papa Knowles told Billboard,

“Solange wasn’t concerned with being perfect on this album. Beyonce’s already got pop and she’s perfect at it. Solange just wanted to sing from the heart. She wants her feelings and emotions to touch you. That’s why ‘God Given Name’ was purposely the first song — so she can share with you how different she is.”

Solange definitely attempts to break away from Beyonce’s signature sound on her upcoming album. With the help of hit producers like the Neptunes, Jack Splash, Q-Tip and Mark Ronson, “Sol-Angel” is undeniably less pop, with more of a modern twist on hip-hop and R&B mixed with a tint of blues and jazz.

The video for the lead single “I Decided” was directed by Melina and features Solange in settings from “American Bandstand, the Civil Rights movement, new wave and a “Cosmic Journey” atmosphere. The video will hit music channels sometime this month.

Solange is definitely making moves! She has partnered with Wal Mart and plans on releasing her very own signature MP3 player soon. She will also join Raheem Devaughn and Chrisette Michele on “The Art of Love” tour which starts this week. But with all these moves, something tells me Solange will push more units in the UK than the US.
