They may be “broken-up” for now but sources claim the pair have been on and off since 2002. (I can definitely relate…breaking up ain’t easy) According to a Chi-town snitch and close friend of the couple,

“I’m not convinced they [Kanye & Alexis] are truly, totally over.” West and Phifer have been together on and off since 2002. “They have had their ups and downs,” the friend said, “and, sure, things aren’t working for them now. But I still think at some point Kanye will realize this is a great girl. She knew him before he had really hit it big — though he was on his way. It’s the ones who were there with you, before fame hit, that make the best friends — and best partners in life.”
