Last night you probably missed MTV’s documentary: Nicki Minaj “My Time is Now”. Kudos to MTV for humanizing Nicki Minaj and the machine she’s been known to become. Not only is she a beast in this music industry (albeit well deserved or not) but she’s also a loving daughter & sister, generous, eloquent, passionate actress, not a rapper. Which leads me to question, as the filmmaker did in the documentary, “Nicki, are you playing the role of a rapper right now?” I mean she did make it very clear in the documentary that she’s not a rapper and that her first love will always be acting. Hmmm, rather interesting coming from someone who’s musical credibility has been questioned from day one. I’m not one to say if she writes her own rhymes or even if she’s lyrically gifted or as amazing as her fans claim her to be. Just roll the clip below to fully understand what I’m getting at…


Perhaps Nicki is fooling us all, especially those folks over at Rolling Stone for coining her “The New Queen of Hip Hop”. Maybe, just maybe Nicki’s theatrics are that on point that she’s taking us on a ride in believing she actually respects the craft of rap and not just another gimmick. And even if that is the case, are we wrong to hate on her hustle? Just something to think about…

“umm I dunno. Maybe I was just audiotining to see if I could kick everybody’s ass and then I’ll gracefully bow out and say I’m done, next role, next script.”*laughs*

ET got the inside scoop of Nicki Minaj’s new video “Right Through Me”. “The concept of the video is boy-and-girl relationship drama, you know, all of the intimate stuff as well as the fighting as well as the self-reflecting type stuff”, says Nicki. “It’s basically just a love story told from the perspective of a very hard girl who doesn’t want to give in but she has to.”

She adds,
“The song to me is very, very personal. I haven’t spoken about an authentic relationship since I’ve come out. … Not everybody is rich, not everyone likes jewelry, not everybody likes playing dress-up, but everyone has been in a relationship at some point in their lives, so when you hear a relationship song, it’s like, you react.”

Nicki’s debut album Pink Friday is set to hit stores on November 23rd.
