STR8 GLOSSY: TYLER THE CREATOR FOR INTERVIEW http://str8nyc.com/2011/08/08/str8-glossy-tyler-the-creator-for-interview/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/08/08/str8-glossy-tyler-the-creator-for-interview/#comments Mon, 08 Aug 2011 15:17:20 +0000 Noel http://str8nyc.com/?p=45160 Tweet

Interview Magazine always has such an interesting way of setting up interviews for the mag. It’s always entertaining reading interviews conducted amongst entertainers, artists, designers, etc… This time around, the staff paired Waka Flocka and Tyler the Creator up for an interview. Strange, right but it works.

Waka Flocka had the opportunity of interviewing Tyler with additional assistance from the editorial staff. Tyler has made it known via twitter that he’s a fan of Waka Flocka so reading this was actually really cool.

Check out some of the excerpts from the interview:

FLAME: So would you describe Odd Future as a hip-hop heavy-metal group? Or a punk-rock rap group? How do you describe what you and your crew do?

TYLER: I don’t like either description. I don’t like being put in a box. I just make music, you know? When you’re put in a box, people have a set mind-state of what your music could sound like before they even look into it. Like, if no one ever heard of me, but I’m hip-hop-metal-rock, then they’re already gonna have an expectation of what the music will sound like. Then, when they go in and finally listen to it, it might be different from what they thought, and they could automatically hate it because they already had expectations.

FLAME: Are y’all tryin’ to change the direction of hip-hop?

TYLER: I’m not trying to change the direction of anything. I’m just doing what I wanna do, saying what I wanna say, and if the shit happens to change, then that’s cool. But I just like making the music I like making.

STR8 GLOSSY: DA BRAT GETS FEMININE FOR VIBE MAG http://str8nyc.com/2011/07/28/str8-glossy-da-brat-gets-feminine-for-vibe-mag/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/07/28/str8-glossy-da-brat-gets-feminine-for-vibe-mag/#comments Thu, 28 Jul 2011 15:23:54 +0000 Noel http://str8nyc.com/?p=45035 Tweet

It’s been a while since we’ve all seen or probably heard of Da Brat. Many remember her tomboy looks while rapping, braids, oversized jerseys and baggy jeans. Well, Vibe Mag brought out the feminine side of Da Brat for the site while discussing what she’s been up to.

The female emcee gets in touch with her feminine side for Vibe in a hot, sexy summer shoot. Da Brat looks great rocking perfect looks for summer, oversized tunics, maxi dresses and let’s not forget the big curls.

Vibe: Was it uncomfortable transitioning into a “sex symbol” or is this just another side of you that we never see?
Da Brat: I’m such a fucking lady. I loved to get glammed up. I love manis and pedis. I like to go to Vicky Secrets and La Perla because I like lace and bikinis. I’m such a P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thug)

Definitely loving DaBrat’s new look…very carefree and fem.

STR8 TALK: CAN CASSIE “MAKE U A BELIEVER?” http://str8nyc.com/2011/07/12/str8-talk-can-cassie-make-u-a-believer/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/07/12/str8-talk-can-cassie-make-u-a-believer/#comments Tue, 12 Jul 2011 19:53:16 +0000 LexAve http://str8nyc.com/?p=44896 Tweet

Ummm, how can we put this nicely…NO! Cassie sort of had us with “Me & You” track produced by Ryan Leslie, but the second she dropped R-Les and switched him for Diddy and Bad Boy, her musical career just quickly took a nose dive. Need we remind you all of her tragic BET 106 & Park live performance of “Me & You”…my ears are still bleeding. Not to mention rumors about her being hip hop’s jump-off chick and those nude leak pics…Cassie just had a horrific introduction to music & fame. Fast forward a few years later, Cassie is still with Bad Boy, still Diddy’s “un-official” girl, and back with a new album and surprise, surprise…a mag cover. The girl can’t sing or perform to save her life, but she sure knows how to work a lens. And to further show off her stunning looks, she graces the cover of BLANK magazine’s July 2011 shot by Gomillion and Leupold.

You can hear her new track “Make You A Believer” in the background of this photo-shoot. But does she still have what it takes to make us believe? How can you make us believe after such a let down? Will this be a comeback or just another case of #Epic Fail?!

THOUGHTS?!

Did we mention for her next album she’s hoping to collaborate with Prince. Yeah..Prince! I’m still waiting on Alicia Keys to collabo with Prince. Cassie must be living in some kind of dream world…I swear. All I’m saying is…please just stick to modeling.

STR8 TALK: DOES RIHANNA NEED TO SHUT THE F*CK UP?! http://str8nyc.com/2011/03/30/str8-talk-does-rihanna-need-to-shut-the-fck-up/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/03/30/str8-talk-does-rihanna-need-to-shut-the-fck-up/#comments Wed, 30 Mar 2011 20:49:26 +0000 LexAve http://str8nyc.com/?p=43175 Tweet

Check out Rihanna rocking and interesting and dare I say barely there pair of shorts on the cover of the newest issue of Rolling Stone. In the cover story, RiRi gets extra candid about her sexual fantasies. We learn she likes to be spanked and dominated in between the sheets…overall sexually humiliated. She goes on to blame her outrageous sexual fixes on her abusive past as a child. The “singer” also dishes about her dysfunctional relationship with her father and having restraining order lifted against Chris Brown.

Ya already know this cover and her “controversial” comments are to make headlines. But real-talk, how many times do we have to hear how much a freak she is in the bedroom. I mean we’ve seen her in all kinds of NSFW pictorials…clearly leaving nothing to the imagination. Makes me wonder who is she trying to convince us or herself? OK, yes…you’re a certified freak. We get it! But why does she continually feel the need to boast about her sex in hopes of shock value and attention. Really Rihanna…that’s all you have to talk about? And why does she continue to bring up Chris Brown in random interviews? My opinion…the more she talks about “liking it rough” and getting spanked and smacked across the bed..just might make people wonder perhaps she deserved that midnight beat down by Chris Brown way back when. All I’m saying is…RiRi please use some kind of discretion and damn sense when divulging personal information, especially regarding your bedroom antics. You’re an abuse victim and admitting you like to be man-handled doesn’t do to well for your image. So please tone it down a bit.

Interview excerpts below…

Rihanna On Her Sexual Fantasies:

“Being submissive in the bedroom is really fun. You get to be a little lady, to have somebody be macho and in charge of your shit. That’s fun to me…I like to be spanked. Being tied up is fun. I like to keep it spontaneous. Sometimes whips and chains can be overly planned – you gotta stop, get the whip from the drawer downstairs. I’d rather have him use his hands.”

Rihanna On Wanting A Man to Take Charge:

“I think I’m a bit masochistic. [The condition in which sexual gratification depends on suffering, physical pain, and humiliation]. I love feeling like I’m somebody’s girl. I think that is common in people who witnessed abuse in their childhood.”

Rihanna On Easing Up On the Restraining Order Against Chris Brown:

That’s my decision. It doesn’t mean we’re gonna make up, or even talk again. It just means I didn’t want to object to the judge.”

Rihanna On Her current Relationship With Chris:

“We don’t have to talk ever again in my life. I just didn’t want to make it more difficult for him professionally. What he did was a personal thing – it had nothing to do with his career. Saying he has to be a hundred feet away from me, he can’t perform at awards shows – that definitely made it difficult for him.

STR8 GLOSSY: RICK ROSS LETS IT ALL HANG OUT ON URBAN INK… http://str8nyc.com/2010/10/01/str8-covers-rick-ross-lets-it-all-hang-out-on-urban-ink/ http://str8nyc.com/2010/10/01/str8-covers-rick-ross-lets-it-all-hang-out-on-urban-ink/#comments Fri, 01 Oct 2010 16:05:38 +0000 J'More http://str8nyc.com/?p=42109 Tweet

The Bawse aka Rick Ross is stuck in between two tatted up chicks on the cover of Urban Ink magazine. I don’t have much to say about the cover. I just wish he had a shirt on, but then again it’s a magazine about tattoos.

Sidebar: Ricky Rozay is really tat, tat, tatted the f*ck up! DAMN!
