Right on time…in true Kanye fashion, the diarrhea of the mouth continues. Ever thought you’d ever meet a black white supremacist?!…Let me re-introduce Kanye West!

I knew it was all smoke and mirrors when Ye made a toast to all the douchebags aka himself, trying to convince the public he’d tone it down. Controversy is Kanye’s middle name. The rapper was performing at the Big Chill Festival in Eastnor Castle Deer Park in England on Saturday night when he went into a monologue, offending nearly EVERYONE. Mid-way through his set, Kanye went off on a rant about his misunderstood artistry.
According to the Associated Press:

“I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I’m (expletive) insane, like I’m Hitler,” he said. “One day the light will shine through and one day people will understand everything I ever did.”

Hear it live below…fast forward to 6:40 mark.

This is some serious sophisticated ignorance at its finest!

With his collaboration album “Watch The Throne” with Jay-Z out today, you better believe we’ll be hearing more Kanye rants…CAPS LOCK AND ALL!

STR8 GLOSSY: TYLER THE CREATOR FOR INTERVIEW http://str8nyc.com/2011/08/08/str8-glossy-tyler-the-creator-for-interview/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/08/08/str8-glossy-tyler-the-creator-for-interview/#comments Mon, 08 Aug 2011 15:17:20 +0000 Noel http://str8nyc.com/?p=45160 Tweet

Interview Magazine always has such an interesting way of setting up interviews for the mag. It’s always entertaining reading interviews conducted amongst entertainers, artists, designers, etc… This time around, the staff paired Waka Flocka and Tyler the Creator up for an interview. Strange, right but it works.

Waka Flocka had the opportunity of interviewing Tyler with additional assistance from the editorial staff. Tyler has made it known via twitter that he’s a fan of Waka Flocka so reading this was actually really cool.

Check out some of the excerpts from the interview:

FLAME: So would you describe Odd Future as a hip-hop heavy-metal group? Or a punk-rock rap group? How do you describe what you and your crew do?

TYLER: I don’t like either description. I don’t like being put in a box. I just make music, you know? When you’re put in a box, people have a set mind-state of what your music could sound like before they even look into it. Like, if no one ever heard of me, but I’m hip-hop-metal-rock, then they’re already gonna have an expectation of what the music will sound like. Then, when they go in and finally listen to it, it might be different from what they thought, and they could automatically hate it because they already had expectations.

FLAME: Are y’all tryin’ to change the direction of hip-hop?

TYLER: I’m not trying to change the direction of anything. I’m just doing what I wanna do, saying what I wanna say, and if the shit happens to change, then that’s cool. But I just like making the music I like making.

STR8 MOGULIN’: JAY-Z ON DECODED…”RAP IS POETRY” http://str8nyc.com/2011/06/14/str8-mogulin-jay-z-on-decoded-rap-is-poetry/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/06/14/str8-mogulin-jay-z-on-decoded-rap-is-poetry/#comments Tue, 14 Jun 2011 22:01:25 +0000 LexAve http://str8nyc.com/?p=44386 Tweet

When Jay-Z released his book “Decoded”, most people wondered “why?” Check out this never before seen footage of Hov talking about the meaning behind the book and rap being looked as poetry.
“Some of the things Biggie wrote,” says Jay-Z, “if you take those lyrics and pull them away from music and put them up on the wall, someone will say, ‘This is genius…this is genius work.’”

If you haven’t done so yet, be sure to cop Decoded …makes for a great gift and coffee table read.

STR8 TALK: RIHANNA FIRES BACK AT “MAN DOWN” CRITICS! http://str8nyc.com/2011/06/03/str8-talk-rihanna-fires-back-at-man-down-critics/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/06/03/str8-talk-rihanna-fires-back-at-man-down-critics/#comments Fri, 03 Jun 2011 20:24:52 +0000 LexAve http://str8nyc.com/?p=44201 Tweet

Yesterday we told ya Rihanna has been under fire for her “controversial” video “Man Down“. Rihanna decided to clear the air and call into BET’s 106 & Park and give her side of the story. She said,

This time around I wanted to explore with my acting even more than I had before. Man Down is about a girl who committed a murder, she is remorseful. We needed to go back to why it happened; she is not a cold blooded killer. We decided to hone on in on a very serious matter that people are afraid to address. Rape is unfortunately happening all over the world and we continue to cover it up. I didn’t go into it to make a controversial video. I wanted to make a mini movie, something raw and artistic. If I can be a voice for so many who aren’t heard, then I win twice. Look at how it’s affecting people, girls are empowered by this. It’s easy to look at it and turn it into something negative. I’m just impressed that my fans get it. That was really important to me. This is a story for them, it’s not for the critics. It’s for my fans. And they need a voice sometimes and if I can be that, then I’ve done my job”.

Before calling into BET’s 106 & Park, Rihanna took it Twitter(read from bottom->up)

Our Bajan princess makes a GREAT point. People really need to fall back and enjoy the video for what it is…entertainment!

STR8 TALK: BET RESPONDS TO TRINA’S SNUB! http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/23/str8-talk-bet-responds-to-trinas-snub/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/23/str8-talk-bet-responds-to-trinas-snub/#comments Mon, 23 May 2011 18:46:02 +0000 LexAve http://str8nyc.com/?p=43841 Tweet

Last week we told ya Trina fired at BET for snubbing her in the “Best Female Hip-Hop Artist” category via twitter…saying “FUCK BET!” BET’s own Stephen Hill responded back with “We need more female rappers”…

“Trina didn’t submit a video that was in during the eligibility period. Let me back up. To be eligible, here’s what you have to have: a video that’s submitted and then first played on BET…between April 1 of one year and March 30 of the next year. So for this eligibility period it would be April 1 of 2010 to March 30 of 2011. She did not release a video to us in that time. “Million Dollar Girl” came in March. I think it was March 12 or so of 2010. And so she was in last year’s nominees for that.”

He continued: “While she was featured in Lola Monroe’s video, the rules are you have to release a video of your own. You have to be the primary artist on it. You can’t be just the feature artist and be eligible. So that’s why Lola Monroe was eligible but Trina was not for this year because it came out this year. So I’ve reached out to her camp. I’ve talked to the head of her label.” Hill also continued that he would understand why Trina would have been upset if she was eligible for a nomination and claims that BET ‘love’ her.

“And I want to be clear: We love Trina, we work with Trina. She performed “Million Dollar Girl” on Rip the Runway in February of 2010. So we love Trina. We definitely understand that it’s a misunderstanding,” he said. “And I’ll tell you now, if I were Trina and I’d released something during the eligibility period and it had not been nominated, I probably would’ve had a little bit of side-eye too. But the truth is she just wasn’t in the eligibility period.”

Shortly after Trina & Stephen spoke about the issue and called it a truce. Trina tweeted her apology.

Glad to hear Trina & BET called it a truce. Guess you can’t really blame BET…right?!

STR8 FROM THE TWEETS: TRINA vs BET…WHAT’S BEEF?! http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/20/str8-from-the-tweets-trina-vs-bet-whats-beef/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/20/str8-from-the-tweets-trina-vs-bet-whats-beef/#comments Fri, 20 May 2011 18:39:22 +0000 LexAve http://str8nyc.com/?p=43763 Tweet

Earlier this week BET announced the nominees for the BET Awards 2011. And since then, rappers and singers have been lashing out at BET for the “weak” nominations. First Keyshia Cole, now Trina. M.I.A.’s baddest bitch is so livid she took it to Twitter for a lil’ venting.

Too bad she deleted that tweet and it no longer appears on her timeline…but the proof is above!

So why the beef? You ask…well take a look at BET’s nom for BEST FEMALE HIP HOP ARTIST…

Best Female Hip-Hop Artist

Nicki Minaj
Diamond
Cymphonique
LoLa Monroe

So was Trina snubbed or should she quit her crying and push out better records and hope for a nomination in 2012?

STR8 TALK: MASHONDA SMARTENS UP & QUITS “LOVE & HIP HOP” http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/11/str8-talk-mashonda-smartens-up-quits-love-hip-hop/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/11/str8-talk-mashonda-smartens-up-quits-love-hip-hop/#comments Wed, 11 May 2011 17:36:50 +0000 LexAve http://str8nyc.com/?p=43563 Tweet

Guess all hope is not lost for Hip Hop wives & girlfriends. Swizz Beats’ ex, Mashonda, has recently announced she wants no part of VH1 reality show “Love & Hip Hop“. According to HipHop Weekly, after seeing the way she was portrayed on the series, she won’t be returning for another season. Looks like Chrissy Lampkin, Olivia Longott, Somaya Reece, Emily Bustamante can duke it out on their own. Basically Mashonda isn’t trying to be associated with a bunch of beefin’ hip hop chicks.

“I just felt like being on a show, a reality show, would be too much, so I declined,” she said. But producers insisted: ‘Are you willing to come on the show to at least give Emily advice on her relationship?’ I thought about it and it made sense, so I said okay.”
“I really honestly did do the show to help Emily and help women across the United States, to let them know that you’re not the only one that can go through something like this [divorce].”

After seeing the final product, Mashonda had second thoughts.
“I just don’t feel like at this point in my life, Love & Hip Hop represents who I am, it’s just a chapter that is over. When I shot the show, I thought that it was going to be like more of a sisterhood, but when I saw a lot of the drama and the beef, I was a little surprised. I was like wow, okay, I didn’t know this was going to be a part of what this is.”

So was this a smart move for Mashonda? I sure think so. Yeah reality TV offers the platform for a lucrative career, but at what expense? Your integrity? Your character? Your overall perception. You may be good hearted and all, but in the world of reality TV…drama brings the ratings and ratings= $$ and that’s the bottom line. I commend Mashonda for smartening up and quitting a show that mocks hip hop and black women. ‘Cause lets be real…”Love & Hip Hop“…there’s no such thing on that show. As for whether or not she’ll be missed…highly doubt it. She was like in 2 or 3 episodes max, not enough camera time to be missed.

AMBER ROSE SAYS “DATING WIZ KHALIFA WAS NO DOWNGRADE!” http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/11/amber-rose-says-dating-wiz-khalifa-was-no-downgrade/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/11/amber-rose-says-dating-wiz-khalifa-was-no-downgrade/#comments Wed, 11 May 2011 16:48:42 +0000 LexAve http://str8nyc.com/?p=43558 Tweet

Amber Rose finally breaks her silence on being considered a “whore”, her relationship with Wiz Khalifa, dating Kanye West in King Magazine’s July/August 2011 issue hitting newsstands May 31st.

Peep some of the excerpts:

Being perceived a hoe:
I spoke to people, asking why do I constantly get ridiculed. Is it because I was a stripper?…But they said, “No, people don’t care about that, it’s that they think that you’re with all these men, when you’re not.” I’m only taking that from certain people that I spoke to. Maybe it’s that too, or that I’m very comfortable with my body. I can be topless on Miami Beach, that doesn’t make me a whore. That’s an everyday thing on Miami Beach. It’s just such a big deal because I’m in the public eye.

Falling for Wiz Khalifa:
We exchanged numbers over Twitter…I chilled with him for two weeks. We didn’t kiss or nothing. Then he left for Pittsburgh and when he left I was so lost without him. He has to come back, I just miss him, and I don’t look at him like a little brother…He’s just so positive. He’s one of those people that in any situation he can always see the brighter side to something. And he always has a smile on his face, he’s never in a bad mood, he’s super talented and smart, he’s a boss. Just being around him I realized he’s not no little boy like I thought he was. He’s a grown man about his business. His music alone, he’s not in the same circle as those other dudes, he’s on some other shit. So when he left we just talked on the phone constantly and that’s when we realized we were really falling for each other. And I was like when this young boy gets back from Pittsburgh; he is definitely getting some…definitely [laughs].

Dating Wiz Khalifa vs. Kanye West:
“There’s no comparison in personalities. You know when people say how do you go from Kanye to Wiz Khalifa, that’s a downgrade. But the only question I can ask them is: have you ever dated Kanye? Because I have, and believe me, I did not downgrade at all. Not in any aspect, at all.”

Here’s a lil’ Behind-The-Scenes footage…the fellas will surely enjoy!

STR8 BEEF: CONSEQUENCE AIRS OUT KANYE & Q-TIP! http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/05/str8-beef-consequence-airs-out-kanye-q-tip/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/05/05/str8-beef-consequence-airs-out-kanye-q-tip/#comments Thu, 05 May 2011 16:14:23 +0000 LexAve http://str8nyc.com/?p=43488 Tweet

Yesterday MTV News posted video footage of Consequence interview with MTV’s Sway where he finally confirms his split from G.O.O.D Music and airing out Kanye & Q-Tip. Apparently the beef stemmed from the fact that Yeezy and The Abstract were set to produce Consequence’s delayed sophomore album Cons TV but that they pulled out and lost interest.

“We definitely have personal issues,” he told MTV News’ Sway Calloway during RapFix Live. “[Q-Tip] and Kanye elected to be executive producers of my Cons TV project. It’s ABG [ed: anybody gets it].”

He stated that though they left him high and dry, he isn’t bitter. “I’m not harping on anything, but I’ma point out the obvious. I committed my time, my energy, my efforts to what we all committed to,” he vented. “That’s the Cons TV project. It’s not to be understated. They rolled with me through everything. They heard the stories on the ‘Job Song.’ They heard ‘Uncle Rahiem.’ They rooted for me. This was the coup de gras.”

As for Cons TV its now been renamed Get Even
. Ahead of its release, Cons is set to release his Movies on Demand 3 mixtape, which will further address his situation with his former contemporaries. Surely The Cons will be spittin’ some fire at ‘Ye & Tip…whether or not it’ll result in the recognition he’s been longing for, we’ll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, check out this Str8NYC exclusive video from back in 2010 where Consequence shows extra love to Q-Tip at his Renaissance album release party in NYC where he also confirms Kanye & Q-Tip producing his next album. Fast forward you’ll see Consequence rocking out the stage with both Kanye & Q-Tip at Music Factory in NYC.

It was all good just a year ago!

SO IS THIS A BITCH MOVE ON THE CONS OR IS IT ABOUT DAMN TIME CONSEQUENCE GET HIS SHINE?!

STR8 SNITCHIN’: KID CUDI DIVORCING MARY JANE? http://str8nyc.com/2011/04/22/str8-snitchin-kid-cudi-divorcing-mary-jane/ http://str8nyc.com/2011/04/22/str8-snitchin-kid-cudi-divorcing-mary-jane/#comments Fri, 22 Apr 2011 18:29:20 +0000 skool http://str8nyc.com/?p=43278 Tweet

Earlier this week Kid Cudi announced to a live crowd of fans that he will no longer get lifted or parlance with Mary Jane for very valid reasons. Seems strange and unbelievable like when Snoop announced that he would no longer puff the magic dragon? Granted, Hip-Hop has been a cheerleader and an advocate for marijuana. But today it seems more commonplace, and heavily promoted by Weed Conoussiers like Cudi himself, Wiz, Curren$y, Mac Miller, and nearly any rapper getting buzzed right now. No longer a taboo and to those who have been blazing for a while, it is no longer cool and looked upon as a fad.  As for Cudi, let’s see if he keeps his word, because anything that is abused is unhealthy, whether it is weed or whatever. Moderation is key. To each his own.

How many of you smokers have struggled with quitting? Do you even care?

THOUGHTS?!
