Is Jim Jones a one hit wonder? Is he a harlem thug? These questions and others are answered in the new Damon Dash-produced documentary called, “This is Jim Jones.”
Dame Dash heads one of the industries illest marketing campaigns since Ryan Leslie’s internet takeover. You guys remember Dame Dash? He was the brianchild behind the original blueprint Jay-z. “This is Jim Jones” clears up many misconceptions about Roc-a-fella and Dipset and of course his estrangement from Cam’ron.

I’m sure many of ya already heard of biopic movie of deceased R&B sensation Aaliyah which will go into production this March. Canadian songstress, Keyshia Chante, was pinged to play the late Aaliyah. Check out Keyshia talking about the Aaliyah movie project…her striking resemblance to the late Aaliyah is kinda eery.

There’s also word Missy Elliot, Ginuwine, Hype Williams, and others will be featured in the flick.

LIL’ KIM SEES NOTORIOUS AND IS PISSED!!

Author: LexAve  //  Category: Beef, Movie, Things They Say

Lil’ Kim went out and saw Notorious and goes off on the flick. Check out her response via her facebook,

“I feel like I was not portrayed how I should have been in this movie. I was in love with BIG and he was in love with me. I was never a JUMP-OFF, I know this and BIG knew this. I wasn’t even able to choose who I wanted to portray me in this movie. I would have never picked Naturi, she doesn’t have a Lil Kim aura at all! She looks nothing like I looked back then. We have NO similarities. Watching her on-screen was so “dreadful” as Simon Cowell would say. She is tasteless and talentless. Never once did she contact me for input or to get a feel of me for the character. A “TRUE” actress would contact the source to be the best they can be in portaying someone. That told me right there, she wasn’t right for the part and not to mention, Naturi has got to be one of THE worst actresses I’ve ever seen and I can’t believe they chose her. I really can’t!
Another thing is, I have been dealing with legal matters as far as them not wanting to pay me and sh*t for this movie, got a lawyer involved, so everything is cool with that, but it still doesn’t change my views and feelings. This is truly Faith and Ms. Wallace’s movie. And Ms. Wallace is right, this isn’t a Lil’ Kim movie and it’s not about me. I didn’t want it to be about me, I wanted it to be REAL though. And that it is NOT. I take no part in this movie and have nothing to do with it. I love BIG and will never stop reppin him. There is NOTHING anyone can do about it. The world will see the Lil Kim story, THE REAL ME! Not some made up bullshit portrayed by a talentless has-been back up singer.”

WOW! Was that last comment a strike at Faith…oh shyt! I can already see some weave snatching about to pop off!

Anthony Mackie went off on Lil’ Kim, calling her “irrelevant”…WOW, this is getting ugly!

Realtalk, after seeing the movie I am somewhat skeptical of Lil’ Kim’s depicted role. I mean was she really chasing after BIG like some lil’ hot in the a$$ puppy. I highly doubt it. Something about the portrayal just didn’t quite fit. Granted Lil’ Kim is raunchy as hell but flick portrayed her as a naive talentless rapstress hoe in training. Nonetheless, Lil’ Kim should’ve known better than to sign off on her role. Dudes from ItsTheReal said it best:
“Please find a good lawyer, ’cause once you sign a movie contract, it’s going to be hard to claim your signature was ghost written.”

HIP-HOP SPEAKS ON NOTORIOUS

Author: LexAve  //  Category: Movie, New Video

We’ll see if the opening weekend matches “Gravy’s” predicition of $50 million…

Last night’s screening of Notorious really proved how much I underestimated the flick. I figured another hood flick about a hustler turned rapper…been there done that. But this was Biggie’s story. Sure we all know how it ends, but do we know how it all began? “Gravy’s” performance was on point and eery at times. He embodied Biggie’s charisma, swagger, voice, lyrical flow…AMAZING! Eventhough I questioned Derek Luke’s ability to play Diddy, he rocked the flick too! From Diddy’s signature Bad Boy prancing and dancing, Derek shed another light on Diddy…dare I say made him more humble. And as for Naturi Naughton, her Lil’ Kim portrayal made it very clear Naturi is no longer a little woman. From matress pumping moments with Biggie to her sexy onstage antics, Naturi did her thing. Whether or not its an accurate portrayal of Queen Bee, well that’s still being determined. The relationship between Biggie and his mom was so real leading me to tears at times…Angela Bassett of course rocked her performance as Voletta Wallace. Though the flick doesn’t provide any answers to Biggie’s murder, it does shed light one of Hip Hop’s legends captivating you from the beginning.

Sidebar: I wonder what Tupac would say about his portrayal in Notorious? Hmm…

JIM JONES & JUELZ SANTANA SCREEN NOTORIOUS FREE FOR FANS!

Author: LexAve  //  Category: Movie, NYC Events

If you’re looking to catch the premiere of Notorious in theaters today, be sure to hit up Harlem. Both Jim Jones & Juelz Santana will give back to to Biggie’s loyal fans by opening the doors of a Harlem theater at 9pm tonight for a free screening of Notorious!

“I did it for hip-hop,” asserts Jones. “It’s as big as Obama’s being the first black president. This is part of our history in the urban community; Biggie was our first Obama.” That’s a strong sentiment, voiced in utter sincerity by the effervescent star of many of 2009’s most exciting projects. Juelz, meanwhile, takes a more personal tack: “This is my way of saying thank you to Big. I never got a chance to meet him, so this is me as a Harlem dude saluting a cat from Brooklyn, in a small but meaningful way. Jim and I figured that so many people in the hip-hop community would be going to the see the movie individually; if we can make it so that everyone sees it together, that’s a great thing.”

Biggie is a hip hop legend…no question! But he’s no way ‘our first Obama’! Take that ishh back Jimmy!
