BH: As a black woman, what do you think about size zero models on the runway?
KR: I don’t think black women are built to be size zero – that was definitely the case at Caribbean Fashion Week! We are lucky enough to have beautiful hips, curvy bums and big breasts, which is the way it’s always going to be! My brother is a big fan of curvy black women – he can’t stand anyone to be skinny! As long as I can remember he always instilled this belief in me that black girls look great when they are healthy and curvaceous. Every time I would go home to visit and I had lost a little weight he’d be like, ‘I need to feed you up, Sis – you’ve got no meat on your bones!’ However, I think what people should realise is that everyone is made differently – you can be a size zero or you can be a size 20 plus. Women just need to learn to embrace their bodies, regardless of whether they have a curvy figure or just go straight up-and-down. As long as you are healthy it doesn’t matter!
