JAY-Z CROWNED “HOTTEST NEW YORKER IN 2009″!
There’s no denying that Jay-Z really had one helluva year which is why New York Daily News crowned the undisputed King of New York the “Hottest New Yorker of 2009”. Check out why!
1. The Brooklyn native dropped the highly anticipated and much talked about Blueprint 3 which sold 476,000 units its first week which became iTunes’ eighth-best-selling digital album of the year. Hov’s definitely the only rapper still gettin’ money in a drought! Not to mention, he killed the oh so annoying Auto-Tune trend and a couple careers as well. Jay even knocked the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley off his thrown as the best selling solo artist when BP3 became the rapper’s 11th album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Men lie. Women lie. But numbers definitely don’t!
2. Jay-Z made it clear that he doesn’t get dropped instead he drops the label and that’s exactly what he did this year. The rapper parted ways with Def Jam and struck platinum with a $150 million deal with Live Nation which allowed him to create a joint record label, talent/management agency and music publishing company under his imprint Roc Nation.
3. He even had the mother of daytime television, Oprah gushing about him. Dude had her out in the hood, chillin’ in the projects “drinking quarter waters”. Not to mention he’s got President Obama on speed dial. Now that’s major!
4. Jay’s “Empire State Of Mind” duet with fellow New Yorker Alicia Keys made him the most envied rapper when he landed a spot performing at the 2009 Major League Baseball World Series showdown between the Yankees and the Phillies. “Empire State Of Mind” quickly became the unofficial anthem of the Big Apple and rocked the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for weeks. Jay definitely made the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee could.
5. Although, arch rival 50 Cent is adamant that Jay-Z doesn’t “run” New York, I beg to differ! Make no mistake, Jay-Z literally run’s this town, having co-ownership of the 40/40 Club in Manhattan and even running Broadway, co-producing “Fela!”.
6. Name another rapper who sells out tickets to the Garden in seconds. I can’t even think of one! Jay-Z’s 9/11 charity show back in September at MSG sold out like a pair of retro Jordans on a Saturday morning. The rapper even donated all of the proceeds from the show to benefit the families of NYPD officers and firefighters who tragically lost their lives on 9/11.
And the list goes on! Damn, Jay-Z really had a good year!
