Email,
bloggers
Believe me when I say, blogging ain’t easy. Aside from the fact I’m holding down three jobs, the blog, online pr for independent artists, and my full-time gig- its overwhelming waking up in the morning turning on your blackberry or logging onto your email and seeing 100-200 unread emails. Most of which are either SPAM or from independent artists. Don’t get me wrong, I love blogging…I wouldn’t give it up for anything in the world but the amount of bullsh*t you encounter via email is ridiculous. And even though I try my best to listen to everything that winds up in my inbox, some folks are just too persistent, to the point of becoming a pain in the a$$. True sometimes I like what I hear, but for the most part it’s all TRASH! And just like TRASH, it gets thrown out in this case it gets deleted! Yet sometimes I find myself responding back with “I’ll get back to shortly.” Most folks take this as a hint to back off and understand I’ll get to you when I get a chance. Yet there are some fools out there who are just too eager and down right annoying as f*ck. Case in point this dude named “Joe Smith” of HustleHard Promotions NYC, whose many emails at first wound up in SPAM and by chance got through (damn you gmail!). So “Joe Smith” emails me seeking to get coverage on a new artist he’s shopping around. Needless to say after a week or so of my replying “I’ll get back to you soon”, “Joe Smith” felt the need to hit me up once again last night and of course I made the mistake of replying. However this time, my response didn’t suffice. Dude went off on some CRAZY tip! Read on….THIS NOT THE WAY TO GET YOUR MUSIC ON A BLOG!!!
First off my names Hassan not joe, that shit pops up so niggas dont get my name. You still do daily news posts everyday, so what does your site undergoing major changes have to do with putting up a news post on my guy like any other daily news post you do?
I dont got time for them run around fake ass industry games niggas play. If you dont wana post the shit then just say that and Ill keep it movin. Your site aint nothin big or popular or some shit niggas is talkin about, its just another site on the net and I was tryin to get my dudes shit on there so more people can hear it. New york niggas is supposed to be helpin New york niggas out. Thats whats wrong with yall niggas foreal. Wonder we fell off aint and never gon be back on top. Its cuzza niggas like you. And my dude aint some no name local myspace rapper. Hes signed and established like the resta these bum ass niggas you do postings on so why you given me the run around here???? You say your site is undergoing major changes what does that got to do with doing a news post? It aint down or nothin? You still doin daily news postings so what really is the problem here my nigga foreal????
How you gonna turn down a serious inquiry about BUYING ad space and paying you money? You obviously aint a real nigga about his bread.
You been givin me this “will get back to you shortly shit” for weeks now. I dont got time for some fake ass website that aint even on allhiphop or nahrights level to be tryin to give me some fake ass industry run around bullshit. My nigga is on allhiphop, nahright, 2dopeboyz, and they dont play no games. I dont see how you playin these fake ass games here, foreal thats some real fuck nigga shit to do my nigga.
Well “Joe Smith”, looks like you did your job at pissin’ off a blogger. And since Str8NYC ain’t on AllHipHop or NahRight’s level, well why are you then all up on my ass trying to get promo for your artist. Go holla at all the other top tier sites. And you ask me “how [I'm] gonna turn down a serious inquiry about BUYING ad space and paying [me] money?” Well it’s simple my little PR freelancer, it’s all about your approach…if you don’t come at me correct, you gets no love. Doesn’t matter how much money you throw my way…it ain’t enough to buy my respect. I gave you respect and responded to you like a professional and you opted to come at me on some goon sh*t and for that you nor your artist gets love. If you’re artist ever gets to read this… here’s a tip, next time hire a more personable and professional PR rep. I don’t have time for this bitchassness! KICK ROCKS, HASSAN!

This is a challenge for sure.
Here is our approach:
Thanks for reaching out to me. I have reviewed the material you sent to me, and unfortunately it does not meet the editorial/content standards of this site. Things change, however. If I find an opportunity to feature your artist, I will contact you.
PR folks should ALWAYS BE PROFESSIONAL in their correspondence related to the BUSINESS of presenting their clients. Foul language, admissions of hiding behind an alias (as a PR rep????) and then badgering a web property owner (whiskey tango Foxtrot, Over?) are elephant sized clues that you are amateur hour and your client pays the price.
I agree with LexAve!

You did him a favor by even responding to him in the first place. Some folks don’t need the internet!

Bloggers run into this type of foolishness on a daily…approach is definitely important in this bizness. Artists and labels know blogs’ are the way to go, so pissing us off isn’t beneficial!
