It was another eventful night for ya gurl in NYC. The Dream held an exclusive album listening session last night at New World Stages for his sophomore LP Love vs Money. Comparing from his first listening session a few years back, it was pretty clear The Dream has come a long way. With co-signers like LA Reid, Mary J. Blige & hubby Kendu, rumored sidechick Christina Milian, Tricky Stewart, and the Hot 97 family, Island Def Jam is spending some serious $$ to take The Dream to the top.
As I waited for galpal Aishah to roll through, I began the festivities with a little double fisting…drinks that is. With complimentary bubbly named “Love”, “Sex”, “Dream” at the bar and yummy grub circulating the room, I was definitely in good networking spirits. Industry tastemakers, record label honchos, and journalists were spotted networking and doing their ususal industry tidbit. After about an hour or so, the crowd was escorted into a theater to take on The Dream Experience. Having the listening session in an enclosed theater made it all the better and not to mention the amazing sound system blaring with The Dream’s musical genuis. While sitting engaging in the experience you couldn’t help but stare at a screen displaying a video montage of women’s sexy silhouettes superimposed over photos of The Dream and shots of money. Somehow I got the feeling I was being brainwashed…and after listening to the booming tracks, I can’t deny The Dream got that heat- MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Before bumping the heatness, LA Reid gave a brief introduction…
Rockin’ That Shit- Club Banger, no doubt! Walkin’ On The Moon ft. Kanye West- Has a lot of potential. Not to mention Yeezy’s verses sans the auto-tune reminds you why you feel in love with him the first place…
-Put It Down- The Dream takes a stab at rapping- The Dream raps, “You fine you sigh, uh, never had anybody put it on your ass like that/A slip of the tongue and I bring it right back that.” Not to mention he gets his R.Kelly on in the dialogue on the track. Sweat It Out- Ladies just make sure you’re hair ain’t done, ’cause once this track hits play best believe you’ll be sweated out. That’s that baby making music, right churr. Love Vs. Money- You must listen to this! Love Vs. Money explores exactly what happens when money overshadows the power of love.
Overall, Love vs Money is good listen but it doesn’t beat Love Hate.
Here’s some footage a quick Q&A with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez and The Dream. Half way through the one on one, LA Reid comes in and straight debos the interview…too funny.
The surprise of the evening was miss Disney herself, Christina Milian, arm in arm with The Dream. Hmmm, what we got here. Rap-Up recently spotted the pair all googly-eyed on the set of his new video for “Rockin’ That Shit”. But let me find out Christina is on that Cassie tip (“F*ckin for Tracks!) hoping The Dream would HIT that! Lawd knows she needs it! Another sorta surprise moment, was seeing The Dream looking 20lbs lighter- all this time I thougth it was photoshopped, lol. Anywhoo, overall the drinks, food, ambiance, and well organized event…The Dream definitely did not disappoint! Shout outs to Gangstarrgirl, Aura & Ian of ATF, Necole Bitchie, LowKey.
P.S.Tonight I’ll be hitting up Jim Jones and Jadakiss. If you want to get all the up to the minute updates, FOLLOW MY LEAD!
