AVANT READIES COMEBACK
After wrapping up his tour for U.S troops in Iraq, Mr. “I Can Read Your Mind” a.k.a Avant is on his grind promoting his first self-titled album for Capitol Records which drops on October 28th. There is no doubt that Avant is ready to take over the R&B world. He says,
“I’m back in the game and have a renewed love of R&B. I just wanted to make good music versus doing a theme album; to have it be more about who I am as a person.”
He adds,
“The reality-based ‘When’ is an example of that. Everyone wants a 30-year relationship or marriage. But at one point a relationship is going to hurt”.
“When It Hurts” which is the lead single on the album was produced by Anonymous (aka Eric Dawkins) and Antonio Dixon (Fantasia), with a video directed by Bille Woodruff. Avant enlisted the help of some of today’s top producers such as the Trackmasters, the Architects and DJ Smurf a.k.a Mr. Collipark for his debut album. Other worth listening to tracks on the album include “Attention” featuring Snoop Dogg and a cover of Christopher Cross’s Grammy-winning 1980 track “Sailing”. In reference to “Sailing” Avant says,
“I’ve always liked this song; it puts you in another world. I stay with the flavor of the record, but it’s my urban version.”
Glad to hear Avant is steppin’ back on the scene… but can he really compete with Chris Brown’s takeover.
