Apparently Aretha has her panties in a bunch all because Beyonce’s introduction of Tina Turner as the Queen Soul. Though the soulful icon was honored with the Grammy ”Person of The Year award,” she was stunned when Beyonce introduced Turner with Aretha’s world known title as the Queen of Soul. Franklin felt more than disrespected and snapped:
“I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy. In addition to that, I thank the Grammys and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyoncé anyway.”
Sounds to me like Aretha is losing her damn mind and in search of publicity. Reality check to this diva “YOU’RE NOT THE ONLY QUEEN!” There are many….Does it really matter anyway- if you and everyone else knows you as the “Queen of Soul” is it really necessary to snap at Beyonce for her mental slip-up…I blame the damn peroxide. Is it me or has Beyonce been pissing off many folks lately? Beyaki better watch out…you don’t wanna get on Aretha’s bad side and get titty slapped.
Aretha is right. No-singing as Tina Turner is a queen in her own right, and has accoplished and overcome a great deal, But she is in NO WAY the “Queen of Soul”! I love Tina, but Ms. Retha got that title on lock. Queen of Rock/Pop may be better suited for Mrs. Turner.
you know b 4 i had even heard about this story, i don’t have a tv and i listen to canadian radio, yesterday i was thinking about certain black folk who become icon’s of a sort, and i was thinking but black people don’t pick these icons white people do and tell us that these are the good black people and we go yeah these are the good black people
and for some reason rea came to my mind and i thought you know we were not the one’s ( black folk ) to give her the title “queen of soul” there were many queens of soul so famous some not so famous, but when rea got hits on the white radio stations they called her the queen of soul because at one point because of her connection to atlantic records, rea was the only person of color being in heavy rotation on white stations..(.some of you kids don’t know that at one time there were black radio stations and white stations……)
They gave her the “queen of soul” moniker, now anybody over 50 think back, and you’ll remember, I remember seeing rea on a talk show and i remember her calling herself the “queen of soul” and i though you arrogant you know what ? since when ?, you might be famous because the white folk let you in, but there were many queens
