SOLANGE HATES BEYONCE’S “HOUSE OF DEREON” LINE! OUCH!

Sure Beyonce maybe the hottest chick in the game…but Solange is the realest chick in the Knowles camp. In a recent interview, Solange confessed she’s not a huge fan of Beyonce’s “House of Dereon” or as we like to call it “House of Done-It-Wrong” clothing line. Solange was initially set to be the face of their junior’s line, but doesn’t think it reps her unique sense of style:

“I initially was involved as the spokesperson, but the clothes just didn’t reflect my personal style and I decided to hand that over. That’s the great thing about my family. We work together so closely that if something’s not working out, we can be honest about it and there won’t be any grudges or issues…I will say though, they did just do a bedding line that I am extremely in love with and I was like, ‘Can I model that… in my house?”

Solange’s brutal honesty is so damn appealing. Rather than jumping on the bandwagon and riding her big sis coattails, Solange is making moves on her terms…its more than about money to her, its about integrity. Then again…you can be all about integrity if you already have the money. Either way…Solange’s blunt attitude is very much appreciated.

A few onths after shaving off her locks opting for a clean look, Beyonce’s baby sis’ Solange switches her look up once again! This past weekend, while spinning on the 1′s and 2′s at TAO Beach in Las Vegas; Solange revealed her new au natural ‘do. Honestly, I like the new hair…just wish she would’ve ran a comb through it, but nonetheless I’m diggin’ it! Shout out to all the natural sistahs!

We’ve always known Solange Knowles to be the opposite of older sis Beyonce. Beyonce on that Vegas showgirl tip, while Sol is all about the nerdy quirky swag…and most recently she tapped into her neo-soul side by covering Groove Theory’s classic hit “Tell Me” at the Opening Ceremony party at Ace hotel. Not sure what’s going on with the turban and all, but Sol and her angels sounded good. Too bad one of her back singers upstaged her…shorty in the back KILLED IT! And kudos to the shaggy white boy who did his thing too!

Miami was definitely live Super Bowl weekend! Amongst the various star studded events, celebs flocked to Def Jam’s “Friday Night Lights” bash sponsored by 1800 Tequila at The Shore Club. The list of attendees included Bawse Rick Ross, Solange Knowles, Diddy, Tyson Beckford, Fonzworth Bently, Sean Kingston, Jeremih, DJ Clue, Gabrielle Union, and Mr. “Panty Dropper” Trey Songz. Ludacris also pleased the crowd with a performance.

Last night BK was live for the Subsessions: A Journey Through 30 Years Of Hip Hop at the NY Transit Museum went down with guest DJs Jermaine Dupri & Peanut Butter Wolf and hosted by Biz Markie. Thanks to complimentary cocktails by Smirnoff most industry folks were in the building…oh you didn’t know, we’re all LUSHes.

Comedian Chris Rock came on the show to promote his new funny documentary “Good Hair”…u must-see! You’ll see in the clip above Oprah gave Chris the mean side-eye when he accused her of having an “extra piece” in her hair. Aside from that half a second awkward moment, I just love how Oprah gave Chris the green light to run through her hair screaming “That’s all yours!! Get outta here. I’ve never done that to a black woman…That lucky Stedman!” LOL.
Speaking from a Latina perspective…in case ya didn’t know, yes LexAve is a latina, my community sees me as “Morena” (a term of endearment for a brown/dark skin latina)- I admit I’ve been a slave to my hair for years. Sure the black community sees me and would say “she got ‘Good Hair’” but in my community the frizzy curls just don’t rock. From a young age, I’ve been bombarded with messages from my family, friends and TV that in order to be beautiful my hair MUST be STRAIGHT. So the economical way to achieve beauty was to hit up the “Dominican” salons and for $15 I’d get that soft, flowy, silky long hair. And for ten years, that’s exactly what I did. I’d watch those PCJ commercials and cry to my mom (who by the way has straight thick hair) “Mami, I want my hair like that!” Everyone in my family has straight thick hair, except me (lol, go figure). It wasn’t until my senior in high school, somehow I made the conscious decision to end the brainwashing cycle…”No more straightening, no more wash and sets, no more ‘Dominican’ salons. I’m rockin’ my full head big curls out, f*ck everybody else!” And ever since that day, I never looked back. Yet, when a big day like an job interview or conservative event rolls through I can’t help but question “Should I blow-dry straight or not?” Sometimes I just can’t help it…
I agree with Chris that this “Good Hair” topic is not just a prominent issue among black women, but amongst all women…including white women. All that talk about “Good Hair” vs. “Bad Hair” is just a MYTH! There’s no such thing…everyon’e hair is beautiful in it’s own way. “I was especially disappointed because the entire reason that I wanted to do it is because I wanted to feel liberated. At this point of my life, I’m a single mother, I’m recording my record and there is a point in the movie [Good Hair] where the women talked about weave and they put it in the form of an addiction. I felt like when I took my weave out, I wasn’t as pretty. I wasn’t as noticeable.

Realistically, I was spending about $40-50,000 dollars a year. I grew up in a hair salon and it was always that feeling of wanting to be in the hair salon once or twice a week. I actually got a perm pretty early. I was 4.

…I’m free but the one thing I do want to put out there is that in life you go through different phases. This is the the phase where I am like, “I can’t deal with it, not to say in three years I’m not going to want that straight hair down to my behind again.”

Overall, I’m definitely running out to the theaters to see this flick…you should too!

The Knowles sisters were out in Japan to promote the new Samantha Thavasa Disney Collection. Beyonce as usual rocked her golden locks, while Solange debuted her cropped shaped up look. But who’s swag are you feelin? Beyonce’s fashion rut or Solange’s risk taking duds?!

Since I recently chopped off all my curly locks for a shorter slicker look, I’m all about Solange’s natural short ‘do!

Not to mention Solange’s tighter shoe game… is enough to make her the winner in this edition of daily swagger.

Yesterday Beyonce’s lil’ sis, Solange Knowles, hit the streets of LA in her what folks are calling Britney inspired hairstyle. I say Solange got tired of the damn comparisons to Bey, she flipped and ran for the clippers. Apparently she’s been itching to shave off her locks for a minute now…at least according to her twitter page. She’s even been quoted saying,

I have to have fun with it or I’ll turn into Britney – shave my head and go totally crazy.’

So has Solange lost it?! Whatever the reason maybe…I’m so loving Solange’s “I don’t give a f*ck” attitude. Like I said and continue to preach, Beyonce could learn a thing or too from Sol. Yet to my surprise last night, Sol wigged it out at a party for Dita Von Teese. Sure the balded hairline wasn’t crisp, but I’m sure should could’ve jazzed it up for the event. Why not debut her shaved swag?!

So I ask my peoples, who’s got fierce swag: Bald Solange or Wigged out Solange?!

Shouts to homie Chevon for recently shaving her head…definitely an inspiration!!
