Last night, luckily to a friendly reminder I tuned into the American Music Awards. I wont bother providing a recap, I’ll let the pictures and videos do the talking…check after the jump!

Ne-Yo and his dancers freaked off in front of the audience to “Miss Independent” and then switched it up with “Closer” . When will he give up Michael’s ghost?

Rihanna outwon Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige in two categories, Ouch! And when the Pussy Cat Dolls hit the stage, Melody Thorton had a lil’ snafu with her patent leather overcoat…not a good look for live tv.

Last year, Kanye bitched and complained about being snubbed at the MTV VMA. Yet last night, he gave one of his awards to Lil’ Wayne…Did I miss something?! And before his Weezy dedication, Kanye gave the ultimate soundbite to date. In his acceptance speech for Favorite Album, the always humble rapper told the crowd,

“I’d like to thank everyone who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music. It’s our responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other…We will be the new Beatles, the new [Jimi] Hendrix. I want to be Elvis.”

And on to other publicity whores, Nick Cannon escorted wifey, Mariah, onto the stage before performing “I Stay In Love“. Was that really necessary? Anywhoo, word is the pair were talking babies before the set.

And to close the show, Chris Brown won artist of the year…WTF?! Over Coldplay? Really, I want a recount!

Beyonce killed her performance of “Single Ladies“.

Rihanna half-assed her “Rehab” performance…I swear you wouldn’t catch me dead at any Rihanna concert. The chick is blah on stage.

Kanye hit the stage 10 minutes before the show ended and performed “Heartless“…let’s just say I prefer the video.

Alicia Keys closed the show with a stellar performance with a few special guests including Queen Latifah for “Superwoman“.
