Is R&B dead? We think so! While Trey Songz, The Dream and Usher are trying to hold it down for the fellas, where are the ladies? We’re glad that veterans like Monica and Faith Evans, Toni Braxton are taking a shot at making comebacks, but we’d like to see a few other R&B chicks from our generation step back onto the scene as well. Now it’s one thing to be the “it” girl of the moment, but it’s another when you over saturate the market like Beyonce and Rihanna are. We’re just hoping that maybe some of our favorite R&B chicks will be able to get some shine.

Here are some of the R&B dames who need to come off life support…

Mya- When Mya bursted onto the scene she let it be known that it was all about her, but lately the world has forgotten about her. Last year, Mya had an opportunity to get back in the game with help from “Dancing With The Stars”, but she blew it. Where the hell is she now?

Amerie- Amerie’s been in the game since 2001, but for some reason her career has yet to take off. While she’s good for churning out a hit every album–we want more! Her former label Columbia didn’t know what to do with her and we thought maybe, just maybe her move to Def Jam would’ve taken her career to great heights…but boy were we wrong! Def Jam was more worried about “Good Girl Gone Rated R” Rihanna so by the time Amerie’s new album “Love & War”  rolled around no one even knew ‘cause we were bombarded with “The Wait is Ova”.

Ashanti- Ashanti was once dubbed the “Princess of Hip-hop & R&B, a title I never agreed with, but hey what do I know? I’m just a regular average Jane. She had a nice lil’ run with Murder Inc and when sh*t got hot she bounced and that’s what screwed up her music career. Without the help of Irv and the whole crew, Ashanti didn’t stand a chance in the music game. Her last album “The Declaration of Ashanti” failed to move units.

Brandy-Brandy’s been in the game since she was 14 years old, but as of late her music career has taken a complete nosedive. She’s gone from singing in sold out arenas to singing in her bathroom. WTF?! Brandy used to “sit on the top of the world”, but now she’s struggling to be on deck. She let other hungry chicks like Beyonce and Rihanna knock her out of her spot.

The second these chicks go Hollywood (acting) they completely forget about their day jobs. As for the hardest working bish in the game Beyonce, although she can’t act a lick shorty sure knows how to handle her business. Maybe Mya, Amerie, Ashanti, and Brandy should hit up Bey for some advice.

While yesterday was “Jumpoff Day”, the day most niccas set aside for the jumpoff in their lives–today is wifey day! So with that being said, ladies if you and your boo have plans to lay up all day here are 10 tracks that will definitely have y’all going half on a baby!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!

Last night’s episode of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” sure didn’t disappoint! Not only is my girl Mya still in the running to being crowned champion of DWTS, but Grammy-Award winner Alicia Keys and Leona Lewis blessed the audience and TV viewers with their beautiful voices as well. Alicia sang her new single “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart” off her new album The Element of Freedom, due in stores December 15th. Leona Lewis sang her latest song, “Happy” from her just-released album, Echo. Mya is up against Kelly Osbourne and Donny Osmond, as they’re the final three finalists vying for the coveted trophy.

I don’t think Mya has anything to worry about, she’s bringing that trophy home!

ANY THOUGHTS?!

While rehearsing for “Dancing With the Stars”, singer Mya realized that her meat-free diet just wasn’t working out for her. So the  reality TV star/singer said “Peace” to her vegetarian ways and converted back to being a meat eater. She tells OK! magazine,

“I am eating more protein now – I used to be a vegetarian! Adding, “So I’m eating lots of chicken and beef. I splurge on carbs like mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, rice and gravy, bagels – the list goes on!”

You can catch Mya on ABC’s hit series “Dancing With the Stars” on Monday’s at 8 p.m. ET –she’s one of four celebrities still dancing in this season’s competition. And in case you missed last week’s episode of DWTS there’s no need to worry ’cause we’ve got you covered with Mya doing the Quickstep.

Singer Mya is set to dance her way onto our TV screens September 21^st competing in ABC’s hit show “Dancing With The Stars”. Although Mya is a trained dancer she reveals that contrary to what others might think–she’s been working her a$$ off in rehearsal trying to master the routines. She tells MTV,

“So far, rehearsals have been really tough. So it’s kind of like reversing my thinking, ’cause hip-hop is so loose and not structured, and tap is so loose and close to the ground and not structured, so it’s so different. I have a lot of work to do in reversing how I think. And I have a lot of partner work to do, so I hope it doesn’t hurt me. But I think music and musicality is going to help me stay on the beat.”

Should Mya need any advice or support, she can always turn to convict buddy Lil’Kim who competed in last season’s DWTS. She adds,

“I haven’t spoken to her [for advice], but she did say she was going to come out and support me.”

Either Mya is going crazy or she has too much time on her hands. According to the songstress, as long as she’s single she wouldn’t mind taking a trip into outer space. She tells CYInterview.com,

“I do want to go to space. That’s the ultimate dream for me. Escaping into another planet or another world or another way of life…keeps me centered and balanced.”

Mya admits that she would even consider spending her final days in space if she found out she was dying. She adds,

“If someone told me that I would never come back, and if I didn’t have a family, I would definitely go and spend my last days in outer space.”

Okay…

There’s no denying that when it comes to achieving her goals, Mya doesn’t let anything get in her way! According to the songstress, she was initially challenged to give up the booze for six months, but ended up prolonging the bet to a year. She tells OK!,

“I was free and celibate from alcohol for 365 days. I couldn’t have a sip of anything. My friends would socially drink, and I couldn’t because it was a goal. It was officially six months, but it turned into a year for me. That’s a pretty hard challenge, but I did it.”

She adds,

“I am disciplined. When I say I’m going to do something and I challenge myself, I like to look at myself in the mirror and be proud.”

I gotta give it up to Mya for being able to give up drinking alcholol for a year ’cause that’s really tough!

A plethora of celebrities including the stars of “Obsessed”, Beyonce and Idris Elba attended the screening at  the School of Visual Arts in NYC yesterday. Of course MaMa Knowles was there to support her baby. Other celebs who came through to show some love were fashion designer, Rachel Roy, Kim Kardashian, Uncle Russ and his boo, and Naturi Naughton.

 D. Woods and Mya who’s been M.I.A for a minute, finally came out of hiding and attended “Operation Smiles 2009 Jr. Smile Collection” in NYC yesterday. Top Model, Jaslene Gonzales and R&B newcomer Shontelle were also in attendance. WTF is Jaslene wearing?! Shorty needs a new stylist ’cause she looks horrible!
