STR8 TALK: 5 REASONS TO WATCH VH1′S “LALA’S FULL COURT LIFE”

VH1 brought us “Flavor of Love,” “Love and Hip Hop,” “Basketball Wives,” and countless of other reality train wrecks. Now they bring us their latest reality, “Lala’s Full Court Life.” The show will give viewers an inside look at Lala and Carmelo Anthony’s life as they gear up to move from Denver to New York City, handle rumors of a secret love child, and Lala prepares for her acting career. The show will also feature Lala’s bestie, Kelly Rowland, as well as several other A-listers like Trina, Sereena Williams, 50 Cent and more. Unlike all the other reality messes, I actually feel this new show is set to show us a more real and less trashy inside look into celebrity life and relationships. Here are Str8NYC’s 5 reasons to tune into “Lala’s Full Court Life”.
1.Real Love on Deck- LaLa & Carmelo have been together for many years…experiencing both ups and downs. Now that they’re finally married, have a family and a success life together- it’ll be interesting how their love is affected by all the celebrity & NYC madness. Can they survive?

2. Basketball on Deck- LaLa & Carmelo tape their reality show at the height and madness of Carmelo’s career- at the point he goes from being a Nugget to a Knick. With speculating LaLa played a role in him being traded to the Knicks…cause lets be honest no New York chick wants to be stuck out in the middle of Denver. NYC is where is at! And who doesn’t love basketball?!

3. A-Listers on Deck- LaLa has befriended our favorite celebrities including Kelly Rowland, Kim Kardashian, Ciara, and even 50 Cent. LaLa even confides in 50 Cent for sound advice…odd? Not really! All dramatics and antics aside, 50 Cent is a smart dude. It’s always great to see celebrity on celebrity action.

4. Side chicks & Baby Mama Drama on Deck- With LaLa’s stardom on the rise and being wife to an NBA player like Carmelo Anthony- controversy in their relationship is a MUST. And that includes groupie chicks and rumors of pregnant chicks claiming her hubby is the daddy…it all comes with the territory. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out with chicks heavily on the prowl and the media stirring up controversy at every moment.

5. Skinny Hollywood Chick Syndrome- When LaLa & Carmelo’s wedding was official, LaLa made sure to slim down and play the picture perfect wife. And now that they’ve settled in NYC with the Knicks, LaLa continues to feel pressure from the media and female counterparts to shape up and look perfect at all times.

Not to mention LaLa is A BASKETBALL WIFE! Unlike those “Basketball Wives” tricks…#imjustsayin

STR8 TALK: VH1′S “SINGLE LADIES” EPIC FAIL?! YEAH…HERE’S WHY!

On Monday VH1 premiered its first scripted series “Single Ladies” starring Stacey Dash, Lisa Raye McCoy and ~~the token white chick~~ Charity Shea. A crew of beautiful, successful ladies living the single life in ATL. Wait what?! Talk about a set up! Did they not get memo?…the majority of men out there are extra SWEET! But before I chew up the show, let me start off by saying its great to see Stacey Dash back in front of the camera…Charlamagne Tha God coined her as “vintage vagina”…PRIME quality ish, lol. As much as I’m a Queen Latifah fan and supported her through out her “Living Single” days + Hollywood flicks, this show is just not cutting it. Sure the show tackles some of today’s pressing issues such as interracial dating, commitment phobic men and unwanted pregnancies. But is that enough to make the show a hit. Albeit it was a major trending topic on twitter during it’s 2-hour premiere Monday night, receiving both negative and positive reactions. I frankly think the show is just a cliche and EPIC Fail and here’s why….LEGGGGOOOO!

1. WEAK ACTING/OVER ACTING!

These ladies are clearly not award winning actresses. The amount of weak acting and overacting in many scenes is just ridiculous…enough to make you look away and at times cringe. #imjustsayin
2. TOKEN “WHITE” GIRL!

Of all the beautiful successful women of color in this show and the token “white” chick is the only one to snag a husband…a black successful man at that. Really?! What kind of message are is the show sending with this? White women are more desirable to wife up than women of color? Hmm… #imjustsayin
3. POOR WRITING!

The writing is just not up to par. From cliche after the next…the writing needs a serious upgrade if it’s looking to compete with all the other scripted shows on other networks. The pop culture references are just lame…enough to make you want to chuck the remote at the screen. One of my favorite shows “GirlFriends” is a perfect example of great writing. Too bad it’s no longer on air. #imjustsayin
4. WAY TOO MANY DAMN “CELEBRITY” CAMEOS!

Talk about celebrity overload! How do you pack so many damn celebrity cameos in a two-hour premiere? Everyone from Lauren London to Kim Porter to Eve to Cam’ron to Jermaine Dupri and all those artists in ATL were in the show. Really?! Quality over quantity people! Don’t even me get started on Kim Porter’s role in the show? Diddy needs to come get his baby mom’s and let her know she should never quit her day job?…oh wait what is her day job?…EXACTLY. NO BOO BOO, NO! And Common…man this is a DOWNGRADE! Stick to Hollywood flicks not Hollyhood tricks!
As much as I want to support Queen Latifah on this project, I’m gonna have to pass. There are just too many glitches with this show to let it go any further. To me the premise of the show is just old and unoriginal…another bootleg version of Sex and The City starring ATL’s finest black women….NEXT! Maybe if the producers of the show take this other critiques into consideration, they can turn it all around and make the show better. Giving us true good quality TV programming!

They’re back! VH1 recently aired the premiere for the third season of Basketball Wives 3.

The trailer shows bits of Jennifer filing for divorce, Evelyn and Chad’s romance + working on babies, Suzie returns and a new woman (Meeka Claxton) is added to the cast. The drama is still there…hands in the face, drinks in the face, bitches all up in each other faces…overall too damn close! Guess that explains the third season…keep the drama coming.

I’ll admit I’ve tuned in a few times but is third season of black women demeaning themselves really necessary?! The ratings seem to prove so…

Everyone’s tried and failed miserably at remaking the iconic television show, Sex and The City. And in hopes of filling that SATC void, Queen Latifah and her partner Shakim Compere, are premiering their new scripted series “Single Ladies” on VH1. “Single Ladies” follows three friends—Val, April, and Christina—as they build businesses, find and lose love, and live the good life in Atlanta.
According to Latifah, “‘Single Ladies’ is a sexy and smart show…something that we feel TV has been missing for far too long and we knew VH1 was the perfect home for it.”

Interesting…but this trailer just showcases one thing…BAD ACTING! Nonetheless I’ll give it a shot and tune in. I heard Lauren London also makes a cameo in the series. Let’s see how this goes…

It’s safe to say that VH1 is giving everybody and their mama a reality show nowadays. Well, they’ve got another hit on their hands with their new show “Love & Hip-Hop” which features “the women of Hip-hop”, Swizz Beats’ ex-wife Mashonda, singer and G-Unit’s former first lady Olivia, Fabolous’ babymama Emily Bustamante, Jim Jone’s wifey Christine Lampkin, Joe Budden’s ex-jumpoff model/aspiring rapper Somaya Reece. The show hits television screens Monday, March 14th at 10:30 PM EST. From the looks of it, this show is filled with D-R-A-M-A! Check out the trailer below…

While you were probably sleeping last night, everyone’s favorite Black Barbie Nicki Minaj hit up CBS’s “The Late Show” with David Letterman and performed her new single “Check It Out” featuring Will.i.Am. Can’t knock Nicki’s hustle, but she should leave the dancing to Ciara, Beyonce and the rest of the other pop chicks. But, I’ll give her an “E” effort though. For some reason her performance just lacked something, aside from all her constipated-like faces…it was just dry.

Sidebar: What’s up with Nicki’s hypeman break dancing towards the end of her performance. He looks out of place…kinda like how Lil Mama looked when she crashed Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ performance at the VMA’s.

IN CASE U MISSED IT: KANYE SWITCHES UP “POWER” LYRICS ON “SNL”

Kanye took the stage this weekend on Saturday Night Live on NBC to perform “Power” and “Runaway”. Aside from both sets being spectacular, if you didn’t listen closely you probably missed the fact that Kanye changed his “Power” lyrics so that he wouldn’t diss SNL. Originally ‘Ye rhymes:
“F— ‘SNL’ and the whole cast,” he originally sang. “Tell ‘em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole a–.”
But after an ackward run-in with one of the show’s executive producers, Kanye changed his rhymes to:
“The brown hero, live from Ground Zero/Machine gun flow, made her get a Ross Perot,” he sang instead. “And this is disestablishmentarianism / With my night goggles on, got military vision And it’s still a very Christian way to think about livin’/ When you prayin’ for freedom ’cause your mind been in prison/’Cause they tryin’ to control every single big decision.”

Too bad he opted not to do any skits, surely that would’ve added some entertainment to the show’s weak episode.
