For those of you Destiny’s Child fans who are looking forward to seeing the talented female trio hit the stage together again, keep counting your blessings because it’s never going to happen! Beyonce and Kelly have both expressed that they want to hit the stage together again, but Michelle really isn’t feeling the idea. Apparently, Miss Williams has other plans which doesn’t involve DC3. OUCH! Michelle maintains that she’s solely focusing on her career as a solo artist.
“I haven’t heard anything about a Destiny’s Child reunion. I’m focusing on me now and want to stand on my own two feet”.
Although, Beyonce and Kelly…well maybe not Kelly; have enjoyed stellar solo success, Michelle is just glad that she’s taking time to jumpstart her own career without having to worry about being in someone elses shadow.
“I’m definitely carving out my own niche. I don’t look to them for anything. I’ve got a long way to go because I’m starting over but I’m happy for it to build slowly.”
Glad to hear Michelle ain’t worrying about Be and Kizzy and is trying to do her own thing.
Normally, artists are the ones getting dumped by their labels. However, in Janet Jackson’s case she’s the one who doing the dumping. Miss Janet has parted ways with Island Def Jam and is planning to be her own boss. Janet blames the lack of sales for her most recent album Discipline on Island’s lack of promotion. Could it be because label bosses probably think Miss Jackson just needs to throw in the towel and retire?! Well, the “Feedback” hit maker, who is currently on tour, broke the news through her mouth piece yesterday.
“At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship. Now, more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album Control, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system”.
Back in June, Janet publicly aired out her beef with her label when she told SOHH,
“I’m trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they (label bosses) just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album, so I don’t think you’re going to hear another single off this album”.
Even Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins made an announcement on Janet’s exit from Def Jam:
“We didn’t get the support from the record company,” he said. “[Janet] felt like it wasn’t pushed. I felt like it wasn’t pushed correctly. She just didn’t get her just-do as an artist of that magnitude.”
Sure blame the label! Janet’s been in the game for many years and should know the only way to remain at the top is to always come up fresh and reinvent your image…people get tired of the repetitive sound and look. Hopefully Janet won’t be hitting the unemployment line no time soon. And another note, we hear JD is pissed and thinking about leaving the label too. Uh Oh!
Kanyezie makes his first appearance out in Hollywood last night after busting outta jail last week. Check him out posing with the President of MTV and Stephen Colbert at the Comedy Central’s Primetime Emmy Awards Party. What’s going on with the Bill Cosby look both Kanye & Jay-Z are rockin’ lately? Rihanna’s doing pretty good and credits all of her success to working hard and fighting for all those No. 1 hits she’s so famous for.
Rihanna won’t say too much about her next album, but she does make it clear that things are just going to keep getting bigger and better. Hmm…is the Good Girl Gone Bad ready to take her career to the next level?!
“I’m not going to give anything away, but it’s going to be very edgy. Good Girl Gone Bad definitely spoke to a year in my life, a year of attitude. It stood for who I am – the attitude, the edge. My next album will take it up a notch. I want to keep growing. I don’t want to get stuck. I want to change”.
After being dropped by Def Jam in 2006 just a month after the release of her third album, “So Amazin”, Miss Christina Milian is back on the scene sportin’ a new deal with MySpace Records. In a recent interview with Billboard Christina discusses her new album which drops next spring and how much she’s grown as an artist. The first single on the album, Us Against The World, is a “cinematic power ballad” produced by Madd Scientist (Leona Lewis, Jesse McCartney) and will drop on October 6 on MySpace.com
“I’ve been out of the game for one-and-a-half years, and I think I’m long overdue for a comeback, so I’m treating this album like it’s my last chance to make an impression. I’m competing with myself and being very detailed. Before, I had a label telling me what direction to go in. Now, it’s my choice, so I’m being very particular about it and I’m really excited.”
Check out John’s next album Evolver dropping October 28th. “Green Light” is on heavy rotation on my Ipod. There’s also word he’s got a joint with Kanye West, definitely something to look forward to.
After wrapping up his tour for U.S troops in Iraq, Mr. “I Can Read Your Mind” a.k.a Avant is on his grind promoting his first self-titled album for Capitol Records which drops on October 28th. There is no doubt that Avant is ready to take over the R&B world. He says,
“I’m back in the game and have a renewed love of R&B. I just wanted to make good music versus doing a theme album; to have it be more about who I am as a person.”
Here are two new single covers for “Swagga Like Us” and Kanye’s “Love Lockdown”. Word is “Swagga Like Us” will be featured on both T.I.’s PaperTrail and Jay-z’s Blueprint 3. “Love Lockdown” is the newest single from the rumored upcoming fourth album from Kanye dropping by the end of 2008. Cant wait!
After working so diligently with 50 cent on his new album, LL Cool J decided to just scrap an entire album of tracks produced Fifty because he didn’t want his new release, Exit 13 to sound like he was biting the Gorilla. The two hit up the studio last year to work on beats and rhymes, but after months of working on a couple tracks with Fifty, LL took only take the best cuts and decided to go solo. He says,
“I’m not releasing the album he and I were working on. I took a few songs for (new album) Exit 13 and scrapped the rest. That’s due to the fact that I don’t think people want to hear me rhyming like 50”.
Well, ya can’t even be mad at the G.O.A.T. for not wanting to appear like he’s jockin’ the Gorilla’s flow. Hold up, is LL still even considered the G.O.A.T.?!
