“A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?” she says. Knowles, who once pranced around in her underwear in an “Austin Powers” picture, has her work cut out for her if she hopes to squeeze into Lynda Carter’s iconic red, white and blue bathing suit. “I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume,” she says. It’s no secret that Beyonce stars as blues matriarch Etta James in the forthcoming film Cadillac Records. Personally, I’m a Beyonce stan but I wasn’t sure how her voice would fair when it came to Etta J. covers. Sure, Bee can sing, but not too many people can match the vocal prowess of Etta James. I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. Check out Beyonce’s cover of “At Last” below…
Grammy award winning, multi-platinum recording artist Alicia Keys has had the time to add actress to her growing resume while still maintaining her flourishing music career. Critics are already buzzing about Key’s stellar performance in The Secret Lives of Bees which hits theaters this Friday, October 17. Could an Oscar nomination be in Alicia’s future?! According to the songstress she chose to play the role of June, a civil rights activist in The Secret Lives of Bees because the movie depicts a different side of African-Americans which is not often shown in movies set during the civil rights era and earlier periods. She says,
“I love the depth of it. “It (black life) is not just one way. Yes, it was very violent, but there also were people who started their own businesses and really helped to move forward the nation. I think you’re able to feel that (in the movie) as well. The majority of the story is about the human experience, and that’s what I love about it the most,” says Keys. “Of course, within the human experience during that time was the civil rights movement.”
Alicia adds that she goes after a role in a film when she believes in the project. As for the kind of movies she believes she in. She says,
“I like things that are unexpected. I like things that are a little out of the box, not ordinary, that make you think”.
