On Tuesday August 9, 2011 in a swanky Manhattan loft Juicy Magazine celebrated the launch of JuicyMagOnline.com with countless supporters, readers and friends. The event was filled with notable attendees including WBLS radio personality Egypt Sherrod, R&B singer Mashonda, multi-faceted artist Amanda Diva, Billboard editor-in-chief Danyel Smith and many other popular NY celebrities and tastemakers.

The evenings tunes were provided by DJ Rashida and cups were filled by event sponsor Alize. With the help of Carol’s Daughter, Harris Publication and Alize, this event was able to come alive and allow Juicy Magazine to enjoy the hard work they put into launching their online publication.

Editor-in-chief Paula Renfroe and web editor Shirea Carroll shared a moment together at the launch party to thank guests for attending and showing their continuous support as this magazine continues to reach new heights. Committed to providing readers with hair care and beauty tips along with a plethora of juicy celebrity news, Juicy Magazine and it’s online counterpart are a strong force in the magazine publication industry and is a perfect match for the fly, confident and sexy urban woman. STR8 SNITCHIN’: NICK CANNON LOOKING FOR A SPONSOR?!

Earlier this week Mariah aka Humpty Dumpty took a fall and yesterday it was rumored Nick Cannon is looking for a sponsor for his 30th celebrity filled bday bash in NYC and LA.
According to NYPost,

In an e-mail sent wide, reps for the NBC “America’s Got Talent” host say: “This is an extremely exciting opportunity to sponsor a fun and lavish event . . . opportunities range from gift bags and signage to tweets and photo ops.”

A one-sheet flier for the “Nick Cannon Birthday celebration hosted by Mariah Carey” offers sponsors the chance to pay $2,500 to be in the gift bag, while a $15,000 donation includes “one tweet” and “mention in all p.r. materials.”

For $25,000 you can be a “host sponsor” which includes “three tweets,” a “right to service out photos” and a “logo on all collateral,” which we hope doesn’t refer to the “confirmed” celebrity guests.

And those prices only refer to a single city, with special “packages” that can be created for both New York and LA.

But before you think Mrs. Carey is going broke, dude is married to Mariah ($$$) and is in his 2nd year of hosting “America’s Got Talent“…so he’s PAID! All I’m saying is $25,000 to sponsor a party…really?! Is this money going to some charity or something? Can’t Mariah front the bill? Why sponsor a Nick Cannon party?! Wait…Nick, who?! #imjustsayin

STR8 EVENTS: THE FADER 68 ISSUE RELEASE PARTY x THE DREAM

Last night ya gurl, LexAve, randomly attended The Fader magazine’s #68 issue release party at the Hudson Hotel in NYC. The event was sponsored by Budweiser and Def Jam. The basement venue was full of hipsters with beer bottles in hand…guaranteed good ‘ole time. Had the chance to reconnect with some of back in the day colleagues and meet some wonderfully snazzy people. But the fun came to a screeching halt when I found out The Dream was set to perform. To room full of hipsters…really?! Who knew this was his target audience. I know I didn’t. Anywhoo, as the night progressed- ya gurl kicked with galpal Zunnania of Zunnania Designs and Parrish of Sobs for the majority of the night cracking jokes and sippin’ on some bubbly…(I hate beer!) At about 10:15pm or so, the DJ went from playing electronica hip hop joints to full blown The Dream mode. WHAT?! Ok…10 minutes later, The Dream took the stage. He kicked off his set with “Ditch That“, followed by “Panties to the Side” (GASP), then “Love King” and finished off with “Make-up Bag”. Not only was I vexed at this “Teddy Graham” look-a-like only performing four songs and bouncing- he was straight up WACK! No stage presence whatsoever. I mean just ’cause you’re “ill” with the pen & pad doesn’t mean you’re meant for the stage. Not to mention “Panties To The Side” really threw me for a loop. I haven’t copped Love King and surely after his lackluster performance last night I don’t intend to..I wont even waste my time or disk space downloading the album #imjustsayin
On a side-note, can you imagine lil’ 5 or 6 year-olds dancing and singing along to pull your “Panties to the side“…SERIOUSLY! THIS IS BLASPHEMY. I love you Fader magazine, but The Dream was NOT a good look!

This post is long overdue but it was such a great successful event/party, we just had to post up. Two weeks ago Belvedere held special launch party hosted by Bevy Smith to unveil Belvedere Vodka’s new flavor: Pink Grapefruit alongside special guest Keri Hilson. Ya gurl, LexAve and pals (Zunnania of Zunnania Designs & Parrish of SOBs) were in the building to enjoy the celebration and luxuriate in true meat packing district style. The event was filled with fabulous men and women who live bold and vibrant lives in NYC, some of which included Tristan Wild, Keri Hilson, celebrity image consultant Damon Peruzzi, LowKey of BET, Simone of Dr.Jays, Necole Bitchie, Fonsworth Bentley, Sway of MTV, Angela Yee of Shade 45, Carl Cherry of XXL, Chuck of Allhiphop, Bre of ANTM, yours truly LexAve and a slew of other industry taste makers enjoying loads of bubbly flowing throughout the room…all while dancing to the mixing of QuestLove from The Roots. All in all it was a fabulous party and we give the new Belvedere Pink Grapefruit flavor our stamp of approval. In the meantime enjoy the pics…

EXCLUSIVE: D.C. DON JUAN “LOOKIE LOOKY” SINGLE RELEASE PARTY IN DC

Last night, ya gurl J’More and galpal Caprice partied with Nu Ent/Jive/Battery Records artist D.C. Don Juan at D.C. hot spot Eyebar in celebration of his single release for club banger “Lookie Looky”. I got there a lil’ after 12 and boy was it packed! Seems like all of D.C. came out to support Don Juan. Don Juan was all smiles the entire night and he had every reason to be. Not only were his fans there to show him some love, but his main supporters– MaMa Juan and PaPa Juan were also in the building celebrating his success. WKYS DJ Alize was on wheels of steel spinning everything from Jay-Z to Serani–so ya know I was mad hype! D.C. Don Juan’s buddies, Que formerly of Day26 and DeAngelo Redman (Making the Band) also came out to support the “Lookie Looky” movement. Special shout out to Candice and a special congratulations to Str8NYC.COM friend D.C. Don Juan!

EXCLUSIVE: CHRIS BROWN ALBUM RELEASE PARTY @ IBIZA IN DC

Just hours after his sit-down interview with 20/20, Chris Brown celebrated the release of his new album Graffiti at Ibiza Nightclub in DC hosted by his label mate rap artist Don Juan. Thanks to Adimu who hooked Str8NYC up with VIP access, ya gurl J’More and galpal Caprice were there to join in on the fun. I ended up being tardy for the party as I made my way onto the scene a lil’ after 12:30, however once I got there I was immediately taken care of. Once inside, I was overwhelmed by the myriad of bodies and smoke in the air. The crowd included Dirty Money honey Dawn Richard, Washington Redskin Rock Cartwright was also in the building celebrating his birthday with his colleagues Fred Smoot, Deangelo Hall, Fred Davis, Carlos Rogers, Laron Landry and Marko Mitchell as well as common folk. Not to mention, the groupies were high on the radar! Realizing that downstairs was a zoo, I quickly made my way upstairs to VIP and set up shop. Thanks to all the camera’s pointed in one direction, I spotted Chris and his brother on the stage engulfed by a crowd of club goers & groupies. Chris kept real lowkey rocking a white tee and appeared to be enjoying himself. He danced a bit to the tunes spinned by WKYS DJ Quicksilva and performed his tracks “I Can Transform Ya” and “Yo (Excuse Me Miss)”.

As for the rest of people…ya know there’s always one knucklehead to spoil the fun for the bunch. Before the night was over three fights broke out! For a minute a thought a bottle incident was about to pop off…but luckily security jumped in and carried the knuckleheads out. A lil’ after 2 am I spotted Chris making a break for it towards the exit, but he went unnoticed when the DMV’s very own Don Juan took over with a rendition of his single “Lookie Looky”. As soon as Don Juan got on the mic–it was ova! The crowd went crazy and damn near everyone in the club was in “love with themselves” for the three minutes he rocked the mic. I chucked a deuce a few minutes before the club closed it doors for the night. Overall, I had a great time!

Last Wednesday (Nov. 18th), Chi-town rapper Kid Sister celebrated the release of her debut album Ultraviolet at Griffin in NYC. From the looks of it everyone had a great time. Unfortunately, we weren’t there to join the fun. I’m guessing our invite got lost in the mail.

EXCLUSIVE: GCH’S TRAVIS MCCOY x MTV CELEBRATE “STAY ALIVE FOUNDATION” IN NYC

Str8NYC joined Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy and MTV to celebrate the “Staying Alive Foundation” at Broadway East in NYC. It was celebration for all their awesome work the Staying Alive Foundation in their latest initiative on HIV/AIDS prevention this year, as well as the global premiere of MTV’s new documentary & Travis McCoy’s “Unbeaten” track.

As ya gurl arrived at the venue, the lowkey scenery seemed a bit a sketchy and I began to doubt my attendance. However, as I awaited admittance into the party I spotted UK’s finest Estelle hop out the tinted-up SUV with her all boy entourage…that was enough to convince me I was at the right spot. Luckily I rolled my gal pals, Aishah & Danica, otherwise being one of the first ten people getting the party started would’ve bit somewhat difficult. And thanks to the complimentary patron cocktails and the tasty hors d’oeuvres, made this party all the better. After a few sips of our cocktails and a lil’ chit chat, we quickly made our way upstairs were more action and mingling began. Within thirty minutes into the party I made it a point to chop it up with Estelle…for anyone who knows me, knows I’m huge a Estelle fan…if you’ve listened to her album then you’d know why. We laughed, sip on cocktails, she introduced me to her brother and her boy a DJ Trauma from ATL. Shortly after Travis McCoy and the Gym Class Heroes stepped in the room and took their seat at a reserved table. As my girls rushed to the bar for more Patron, I held down the fort and managed to strike up a lil’ convo with Travis…talking about my college town aka his hometown, Geneva, NY- six hours north of NYC.

After about an hour, MTV’s Kim Stolz got the crowd’s attention and began presenting some important people such as Natalia Coles, Co-Founder or “Carolina Empowerment Group, Inc” in South Carolina- an organization focused on ‘empowering people day by day’ and educating the community about HIV/AIDS prevention. Did you know that 1 in 20 people in South Carolina are either HIV/AIDS infected? WOW! Travis also took the stage to talk about his world-wide effort with MTV’s “Stay Alive Foundation” as well as gave the crowd a sneak peek at a new documentary and premiered his new video “Unbeaten”.

The celebration continued shortly after the speeches and videos…the bubbly kept flowing and food kept coming and that’s when the dancing began, at least for a lil’ bit. Hands down this event gets an A+ with flying colors. Check out some of pics and video I snagged…Enjoy!

Last Friday (September 25^th), HoneyMag.com celebrated the “Changing of the Guard” at Collective Hardware in NYC. The festive event commemorated the introduction of New York’s trendsetters and tastemakers to the new faces behind the new Honey. Fab guests included video director Va$htie, Donnie Klang, celebrity hair stylist Ursula Stephen, Mashonda, Dee Vasquez and many more. Honey definitely knows how to throw a party as the event featured custom studding, hair cut remixes, balloon animals as well as an abundance of bubbly.

EXCLUSIVE: ROCAWEAR 10TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY IN NYC…

So after enjoying a few outings for Fashion Night’s Out, galpal Aishah and I headed uptown for the Rocawear 10th Anniversary Party. Upon arriving and checking our names off the list, we were presented with a waiver to sign granting permission to be photographed and videotaped. Soon after the waiver was signed our mugshots were taken. *weird* Anywhoo once at the Rocawear showroom floor, Aishah and I hit the open bar, mingled, walked around, peeped the view of the NYC skyline. At first the party was sorta bleak, but shortly after people began flooding in. The alcohol was flowing, people were dancing courtesy of DJ D-Nice, and having a fab time. After about 2 hours of mingling, drinking, and dancing…Jay-Z made his grand entrance. One minute Aishah and I are dancing, next minute everyone in the room flocks to Jay-Z like herd. The groupies were on high alert trying every move to get close enough to Hov but his guards weren’t having it. Five minutes later, the hottest chick in the game steps in the room…BEYONCE! Looking carefree with very light makeup and shades…Bey stepped to Jay, gave a smile, kiss on the cheek, whispered in his ear, smiled for the groupies and bounced. No lie Bey made a 2 minute appearance…following in his wife’s footsteps, Jay-Z, was out the door leaving groupies baffled and in starstruck high. Shortly after Aishah and I called it a night. Enjoy the pics I snapped, excuse the blurriness, camera holding skills were bit unsteady thanks to all the bubbly.
