Rapper Styles P is trying to make it on the New York Times Best-Seller List, trading in his beloved mic for a pen. Styles has been keeping busy outside of the booth working on his first book entitled “Mr. Invincible” set to drop this summer. He says,

“I never really took the time out to give it a shot, it’s just something I always wanted to do. I got a love for books and reading. Actually, what happened, I was getting on the plane and I forgot my book but I wanted to read so I decided to give it a shot, did a few pages, ended up messing with Random House.” Adding, “(It’s an) action packed mystery, very climactic ending, dramatic, basically that’s it. Just sometimes you got to chase your dreams or they chase you.”

Definitely can’t knock this brotha’s hustle! I just hope the book isn’t trash.

Rapper-turned-reality TV star Rev Run and wife Justine Simmons have penned a book for parents struggling to raise decent kids in this crazy world we’re living in. The book, titled “Take Back Your Family: How to Raise Respectful & Loving Kids in a Dysfunctional World“, details their fight to raise six children in a world of videogames, bad TV and divorce. Rev Run says,

“I believe something is taking your family from you; if you look at the divorce rate, nobody’s eating together anymore. I wanted to make a bold statement.”

Meanwhile, Justine insists that communication is a key when it comes to successfully raising kids. She says,

“We are constantly in their lives, trying to find out what they’re doing, what they wanna do.”

The Simmons family even has their very own motto for family life.

“We’re the family that plays together, prays together, stays together and gets paid together.”

I shared my personal story as a dark skinned woman in America, an experience that parallels millions of other Black women. Regrettably, this other author has no copyright (or patent) on the Black female experience. While I’m delighted to discover there is a new book with a similar theme available I only wish the author would have embraced our commonality as sisters in this struggle rather than opt for such a defamatory public recourse via a disreputable gossip writer. Approach is everything. Plagiarism is a serious implication that I’m extremely disheartened and insulted by. If this author can produce the same references in her book that I made to Alek Wek, poet Khalil Gibran, an experience in Brazil, disparaging public comments surrounding living as a “dark skinned” woman as well as scrutiny regarding her marriage to an R&B singer then perhaps she should seek legal counsel to handle this matter with the proper protocol.

Lastly I want to express my sincere gratitude to Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Alex Haley, Susan Taylor, Khalil Gibran, Langston Hughes, Frederick Douglass and Zora Neale Hurston, just a few renowned authors who have touched on this similar subject and who I have indeed read and been inspired by.

Janet Jackson doesn’t strike me as the type to put her business out there, but word is she’s a penning a tell-all book about her weird ass family. According to snitches,  Miss Jackson is writing the book to help cope with Michael’s death. Janet plans to pour out her emotions over Michael’s passing as well as go in depth about her issues with self-esteem and weight in the pages of the book. A snitch reveals to In Touch Weekly,

“She is going to talk about Michael’s death and how it’s affected her and his children and the rest of the family…A lot of it will focus on her battle with self-esteem and weight. She is a huge success. But that’s not always what she has seen when she looks in the mirror, so the book will talk about how she has coped, and about her family relationships. She wants to help other young women out there.”

I’m not buying this one, FYI this is the same chick who kept her marriage a secret for 10 damn years!

After recently confirming a book deal, word is the King of New York aka Jay-Z is also in talks to pen an autobiography which will chronicle his early days hustling on the grimey streets of Brooklyn, NY to his fairy tale wedding to singer Beyonce Knowles. A snitch reveals,

“It’s going to cover everything from his days on the streets as a drug dealer to his fairytale wedding to Beyonce. Adding, “He’ll also be revealing his rapping secrets.”

Jay-Z’s mouthpiece has confirmed that he will be penning a book, but it currently has no title or release date.

Whatever happened to Jay and Beyonce being so private about their personal lives?!

Looks like Pimpin’ Curly can now add author to his growing resume. Word is Fifty Cent teamed up with business guru Robert Green and wrote a book on how to become rich without having to die trying. The book is titled “The 50th Law”, and it promises to reveal “how the power game of success can be played to your advantage”. The book which will be published this Fall comes equipped with chapters like “Turn Sh*t Into Sugar-Opportunism” and “Hood Economics”. According to publisher Andrew Franklin,

“Those who dismiss 50 Cent as a gangster should rethink, his continued presence in the Forbes rich list and entrepreneurial nous show there is a lot more to the man than his music”.

Apparently, Fifty plans to launch his new project by taking part in a debate at the Oxford Union later this year.
