Rather than do the typical recap of who failed at the BET Awards, we’re turning a new leaf and focusing on the positive. Those mentioned…won! Those not mention…well clearly they failed! lol. Let’s get things started with Kelly Rowland’s killer performance at The BET Awards. Miss Kelly officially became a solo star last night. Not only did she prove why she deserves the solo stardom but she proved Beyonce ain’t the only singing/entertaining sensation. From the sexy choreography to the smooth vocals, Kelly Killed It!

Within minutes twitter world took notice and made Kelly a trending topic. Great to see Kelly wining and getting her long overdue recognition.
SO ON DECK!
Kelly Rowland is definitely winning and to keep her winning streak going here are some suggestions she should consider before the ride comes a screeching hault…
REALITY SHOW- about what you ask? Who cares?…apparently everyone and their mother seems to get one these days…so go go go and make it work!

LOVE LIFE- Kelly needs a new love interest and something that’ll keep gossip folks talking, as that’ll breed more publicity…can’t go wrong with that.

REMIXES- With everyone in the industry remixing her single “Motivation”, Kelly should very much consider jumping on other folks music. That’ll keep her name and fame buzzing.

NEW MUSIC- Hurry up and release a new single…”Motivation” spins on the radio and requests has its days numbered. With Beyonce dropping her new album, Kelly needs to push out some new material ASAP!

MAGAZINE COVERS- With the great success of “Motivation”, Kelly needs to start scoring some glossy covers…NOW!

STR8 TALK: BET RESPONDS TO TRINA’S SNUB!

Last week we told ya Trina fired at BET for snubbing her in the “Best Female Hip-Hop Artist” category via twitter…saying “FUCK BET!” BET’s own Stephen Hill responded back with “We need more female rappers”…

“Trina didn’t submit a video that was in during the eligibility period. Let me back up. To be eligible, here’s what you have to have: a video that’s submitted and then first played on BET…between April 1 of one year and March 30 of the next year. So for this eligibility period it would be April 1 of 2010 to March 30 of 2011. She did not release a video to us in that time. “Million Dollar Girl” came in March. I think it was March 12 or so of 2010. And so she was in last year’s nominees for that.”

He continued: “While she was featured in Lola Monroe’s video, the rules are you have to release a video of your own. You have to be the primary artist on it. You can’t be just the feature artist and be eligible. So that’s why Lola Monroe was eligible but Trina was not for this year because it came out this year. So I’ve reached out to her camp. I’ve talked to the head of her label.” Hill also continued that he would understand why Trina would have been upset if she was eligible for a nomination and claims that BET ‘love’ her.

“And I want to be clear: We love Trina, we work with Trina. She performed “Million Dollar Girl” on Rip the Runway in February of 2010. So we love Trina. We definitely understand that it’s a misunderstanding,” he said. “And I’ll tell you now, if I were Trina and I’d released something during the eligibility period and it had not been nominated, I probably would’ve had a little bit of side-eye too. But the truth is she just wasn’t in the eligibility period.”

Shortly after Trina & Stephen spoke about the issue and called it a truce. Trina tweeted her apology.

Glad to hear Trina & BET called it a truce. Guess you can’t really blame BET…right?!

STR8 TALK: NICKI MINAJ + BRITNEY SPEARS FAIL AT BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS!

Last night the annual BillBoard Music Awards went down. The show opened up with Rihanna & Britney Spears…let’s just say it there was loads of lip synching, gyration, and all but uncomfortable to watch.

Later on into the award show, Nicki Minaj hit the stage to perform “Super Bass”, which overall was just “SUPER WACK!” Call me a hater, say what you want but Nicki has no stage presence. All that fake ass couldn’t make up for her weak performance last night. Even the lap dance was LAME! Really!
But despite having a lame set, Nicki somehow managed to outdo Britney Spears. WOW! Poor Brit Brat, just can’t seem to save herself these days. Seriously why bring out Britney, if she’s just gonna make it an EPIC FAIL!

Here’s Beyonce performing lead single off “4″, “Run The World” at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. Can’t lie the song is definitely growing on me. Beyonce took live performance to another level with her BillBoard Award set. Performing with projection involves crazy synchronization and the timing has got to be perfect and Beyonce was on point!! Once again Beyonce proves to be one of the best, if not the BEST, performer of our generation.

Earlier this week BET announced the nominees for the BET Awards 2011. And since then, rappers and singers have been lashing out at BET for the “weak” nominations. First Keyshia Cole, now Trina. M.I.A.’s baddest bitch is so livid she took it to Twitter for a lil’ venting.

Too bad she deleted that tweet and it no longer appears on her timeline…but the proof is above!
So why the beef? You ask…well take a look at BET’s nom for BEST FEMALE HIP HOP ARTIST…

STR8 TALK: 2011 GRAMMY NOMS & PREDICTIONS…

And the nominees are…pretty much all of our favorites. Following in Beyonce’s 2010 footsteps, Eminem got 10 noms, Lady Gaga scored 6 noms, as well as Jay-Z and newcomer Bruno Mars got a whopping 7 Grammy nominations. Sure Bruno Mars’ album Doo-Wops & Hooligans dropped a week after the Grammy eligibility period, Bruno scored noms for his collaborations with other artists. Finally the Academy gets it right. Be sure to tune to the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards being held on Feburary 13, 2011 on CBS.
But while we wait for the results, here are some of my predictions + comments…

Need You Now – Lady Antebellum
The Fame Monster – Lady Gaga
Teenage Dream – Katy Perry
The Suburbs – Arcade Fire

Lady Gaga vs Eminem…man this is a tough one! Lady Gaga’s album was an all around club hit while Eminem’s “Recovery” was just MESMERIZING! This is a toss up.

Love The Way You Lie – Eminem & Rihanna
Fuck You – Cee-Lo Green
B.o.B & Bruno Mars – Nothin’ On You
Need You Now – Lady Antebellum

Another set of great nominations…including that country music nomination. All of these records were spectacular and memorable. But Jay-Z x AKeys got this one in the bag. I mean this record was everywhere and I mean everywhere.

The BET Hip Hop Awards went down earlier this week, aside from its usual performances, BET made sure to include those freestyle cyphers that started last year. Realtalk, that’s the best part of the awards show. They should really consider incorporating more cyphers into their programming…bring the real essence of hip hop back. Check out the G.O.O.D music crew spitting some bars off the dome. That Rosewood look might become a trend in 2011, thanks to Mr. West. I see the whole G.O.O.D. camp is in the building…but ummmm, where’s Consequence?! What’s beef?!

LADY GAGA SPEAKS ON HER “MEAT” DRESS!!

In true Lady Gaga fashion, she managed to gross us out yet again at the MTV VMAs…this time for ensemble of choice…MEAT! Not sure why, but her outfit was definitely meaty…
Gaga told Popcrunch:

“Well, it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgement-free human being on the earth. However, it has many interpretations. For me this evening, if we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights pretty soon, we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat.”

Gives a whole new meaning to meat on her bones…ewww.

DRAKE THE NEW FRANK SINATRA?!

Drake trades the hoodies and jeans for a suit in his new promotional video of MTV’s VMAs show on September 12. Set to perform at the VMAs, Drake gets his grown man on for the show.

“I get to channel my inner [Frank] Sinatra,” he said. “In the acting world, you gotta have reference points. I like to get into characters.” Also, he looks Denzel Washington for inspiration. ” ‘Mo’ Better Blues’ is like one of my favorite movies of all time. This reminds me of Denzel, who played a character [called] Bleek Gilliam,” he shared. “I’m trying to channel that today.”

ARE KANYE WEST & TAYLOR SWIFT TO RE-UNITE AT VMAS?!

With the VMAs a few weeks away and the anticipation of Kanye’s comeback builds, we can’t but wonder will Kanye Taylor Swift anyone? Will Kanye and Taylor share the same stage? Well host to the upcoming VMAs, Chelsea Handler, thinks its time to let bygones be bygones and call a truce.

“We’ll try to think of something clever to do with them, because that would be really fun….I’d like to get them together,” Handler told Seacrest. “We’ve never really seen them together since then. They were supposed to be together on ‘SNL,’ but then that didn’t end up happening.”

Nevermind the fact last year’s VMA incident was more than likely staged…surely Kanye & Taylor have no beef. In fact, Taylor is probably thankful to ‘Ye for being such a douchebag and making her the hottest star of the year. We’ll just have to tune and see what goes down on September 12th.
