STR8 TALK: TRINA, WHO YOU CALLING A BITCH?!

STR8 TALK: TRINA, WHO YOU CALLING A BITCH?!
STR8 TALK: TRINA, WHO YOU CALLING A BITCH?!

Since its infancy, the term “Bitch” has been synomous with “Rap” albeit “Hip Hop”. Both male and female rappers use it in their lyrics in every shape and form. It started out as a degrading word, kind of like “nigga” but over time it’s been embraced and dare I say flipped as a term of endearment. However, something about a woman calling other women “My Bitches” just doesn’t rub me the right way. Case in point Trina’s new video/song “My Bitches”. Granted she’s not the first nor will be the last to use “bitch” in this way and true the full song is about women empowerment and applauding those “bitches” who handle their own. But really why they gotta be called bitches?! I mean…I handle my own, pay my own rent, pay own bills, buy my own shit (designer and payless included), treat myself whenever need be, run Str8NYC and maintain a corporate job…never with the assistance of any man! NEVER! And quite frankly I’m hella proud of that, but do I run around calling myself “Boss Bitch!” NEVER! Not to sound all conservative on ya, but when do you hear a man…a real man, saying “I want myself a BITCH!” NEVER! These “real” men want “real” WOMEN.
While many of you might think, “Why is LexAve making this a big deal of this?”…well a while back when Trina was on her promo tour for Amazing in NYC, I got the chance to sit down and chop it up with her. And I gotta admit, her witty & personal attitude really surprised me…I had no idea she was so cool, forward thinking, intelligent and classy. Then this video comes out and I’m like what?! That’s not what you were talking to me about when you addressed women empowerment. #imjustsayin Trina you’re cool and all but you won’t be hearing or seeing me rocking out to this track NO WAY! Not in the mood to demean myself on any day. It feels like female empowerment has taking a turn for the worse…slutting it out and calling each other bitches doesn’t take away from the fact it’s demeaning and completely unnecessary.

“I love my bitches…”
Remember when this was female empowerment…

LADIES, DO YOU LIKE BEING CALLED A “BITCH”?!
