THE PRINCESS STEPS BACK ON THE SCENE!
Guess who’s back… it’s the former “Princess of the Roc”, Teairra Mari. It’s been a while since we’ve seen her in the spotlight, but now she’s back with a new label, Interscope and a new single, “No No No”. Shorty is definitely back with a vengeance as she is currently in the middle of adding the finishing touches to her label debut which is scheduled to drop either later this year or early 2009.Being dubbed by songwriter Sean Garrett as an “urban Avril Lavigne, Teairra was signed to Def Jam back in 2004 along side former label mate, Rihanna. Although her first single “Make Her Feel Good” reached No. 9 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and her first album “Roc-A-Fella Records Presents Teairra Mari,” reached No. 2 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 5 on The Billboard 200 it still wasn’t enough for Def Jam. After going back to work on what was supposed to be her second album, Teairra who was then 17 found out that Def Jam cut her loose. She says,
“I got a call before my high-school graduation. I kept it to myself for about six months; I didn’t even tell my mom. Then news about it started coming out on the radio. I stopped doing music for a year”.
According to the Princess, spending time with her family while she went through such a pivotal point in her life really helped helped her to recuperate. Around the same time she was introduced to her new manager Cuda Love of Fo Real Entertainment, who flew her out to LA where she recorded a couple tracks and eventually signed with his company. This time around Miss Teairra Mari wants to do things differently. She has enlisted the help of super-producer Timbaland, JR Rotem and Nephew for her sophomore album. She adds,
“I’m at a good point now, with more creative control to be Teairra Mari. The last time out, I was more concerned about trying to get a platinum album instead of enjoying the journey. I love music and that’s what it’s really about: getting my message across to those who want to hear it”. Source
Best of Luck to Teairra! With a new label and a new album, could Teairra really be on her way to the top?! Do you think Teairra has what it takes to knock Lil’ Miss Sunshine, a.k.a Rihanna out of the game?!?
