RUSSELL SIMMONS HAS NO BACKBONE!!!

Last Friday, I had the opportunity to attend the 37th Annual Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Conference in Washington D.C.. The theme of this year’s conference was “Unleashing our Power”. Congresswoman Maxine Waters hosted the Young, Gifted and Black Forum in which Russell Simmons made an appearance. When it came down to discussing the controversy surrounding the “N” word, I felt Russell was holding back from saying what he really wanted to say about the issue, as if he was taking the subject lightly. In his opinion he believes that we can not remove the word from U.S history and regrets that he even went on the Oprah Show. Now, I agree with him on the fact that we cannot erase the word, however we can help stop the use of the word. In terms of the usage in Hip-Hop culture Russ feels that artists should say whatever is on their mind and that we waste too much of our time on that subject when we should be talking about other issues as opposed to the number of times the “N” word is used in a record. As soon as I heard boooos in the audience I was just sitting there saying to myself, “Damn, is his ass serious?” Another member of the panel laid some ill knowledge on Russell’s ass when Russ admitted to using the word as an expression and only worries about its intention…in other words to him its just a word. The other member basically said that there isn’t a difference in the definition of the “N” word. Adding that words are so powerful, that Russell basically made his millions on words alone!
